About this ebook

She wonders about this; Is it possible to be attracted to a person other than for their physical looks? Was I attracted to Fred for the wrong reasons? This is too much do deal with at this moment.

Nina is in deep thought; What am I doing with him? We are not a match, not by a long shot. This relationship isn't going anywhere, why do I even bother.

Nina thinks; When you look further other than being a bit shy, he seems to be a regular guy, certainly not arrogant or pushy. I like that about a man.

When he knocked on her door to pick her up, she wasn't even home, probably at a girlfriend's house laughing their heads off; or worse yet, out with another guy. Her parents didn't even know where she was.

    Dooley's Quest - Alex R Casey

    Dooley's Quest

    Chapter 1

    Dooley

Dooley's Quest starts tomorrow, Dooley is not aware of this as yet. Its night time, it will be awhile before the day breaks. He has enough to deal with at the moment.

When you hit the sack at eleven and you have to get up at three to have a leak, that is okay, but on the way in the dark to the bathroom if you happen to stub your little toe against something left laying on the floor, that's not okay, the crack or snap that you hear makes it not so good.

This makes one wonder if it would have been better for Dooley if he had just stayed in bed and taken his chances.

The other option; turn on the light.

Indeed, things like that happen quite often.

to Dooley His mind seems to wander away from him at times.

As he sits on the toilet, and waits to empty his bladder, he stares at his feet and wonders why he has so many toes in the first place, five on each foot. Ten chances to break a toe.

He thinks of his odds so far; It seems that the odds are too high, must be something to do with Murphy's law.

Dooley has broken his little toe a couple of times, and knows there is not much one can do about it; his toe already has an unusual shape from the previous times he whacked it against some solid object on the floor.

You would think by now he would have learned to not leave stuff lying around on the floor

Dooley goes back to bed in the dark and bangs his head against the headboard, as he tries to slide under the covers. He now has a slight headache and didn't even feel like swearing,

He wonders; If he there were someone else around to hear, would he swear for their benefit?

The other option; turn on the light.

Dooley lives alone, not by choice, it just happens to be that way; time just seemed to slip away, right up to his thirty-second birthday.

He mutters something under his breath, and rolls onto his side.

Dooley is not entirely pleased with his situation.

His little toe is throbbing, and his head hurts where he banged it. He lies there for an hour, and then drifts off into a dreamful sleep.

He dreams he is sixteen years old, back in his old school; in his dream he needs to go to the bathroom, but cannot find a washroom. In his dream, he rushes up and down the halls looking. He finally finds a toilet that is situated in the middle of the room; in the principle's office.

When his alarm clock goes off, he awakes still breathing hard, and feels very tired. His head does not hurt any longer, but his toe looks very red and hurts to the touch.

    Chapter 2

    Irene

Dooley showers, and shaves, throws on his housecoat, and makes his way to the kitchen.

The first thing he does is open the fridge door and stare, checking out all the shelves; not much is registering.

Many minutes pass before he realizes there is not much food in there, only a couple pieces of pizza from a day or two ago.

There is half a bottle of some kind of sweet sugar drink sitting on the top shelf.

He chooses what's left of the pizza, and the sweet drink. Dooley sits at the kitchen table and proceeds to eat. His mind wanders off to where he is some kind of hero saving the world.

There is a loud banging on his front door; this brings him back to reality.

As he slowly gets up, he bumps the table, the sugar drink falls off the table, and lays gurgling sweet juice all over the floor.

There is more banging, but much louder; someone out there is not happy.

Dooley goes over to the door, and opens it.

There is a woman who looks to be angry; she is about the same age as Dooley; in her thirties.

She is short, plump and has brown eye; she stands with her hands to her side, where she makes a fist.

Dooley stands in the doorway, he is taller than her, and looks down at her. He studies her short dark brown hair that needs combing.

Dooley holds a piece of pizza in his right hand; as he concentrates on her hair, he lets his arm fall to his side; some of the pizza toppings slides off, and drop to the floor.

Before he speaks, he swallows the rest of the pizza that is in his mouth, What can I do for you Irene?

Her face reddens, her face tightens, her mouth opens as she says, What can I do for you; I have asked you twice to deal with the people next door.

    "They do not work and
