About this ebook

Jesus Christ: His Life and Times offers a short informative overview of the life of Jesus. It's neither preachy nor religious, but a biography of Jesus Christ, the man.

In under two hours you will get to know Jesus; his birth, childhood, his ministry; his last days on earth; and his resurrection. The book is written in a simple easy to read style that will appeal to adults and younger readers.

Excerpt:

Next Jesus shared the parable of the lost sheep with his disciples. When the shepherd searches the entire mountain for a lost sheep, he is happier when he finds it, than he is for all of the sheep that never strayed.

"God also seeks out the lost sheep," he told them. God seeks out the sinners, who have lost their way, and when he finds them, he offers them forgiveness for their sins.

Peter asked, "Lord, how often is my brother to sin against me and be forgiven? Up to seven times?"

"Seven times," said Jesus, "I say up to seventy-seven times."

To make things even clearer for his disciples to understand, Jesus told them the story of the wicked servant and the King.

A servant was brought before the king to settle up his debts, and when he couldn't pay, the king ordered the servant, his wife, his children, and everything he owned to be sold to repay the debt.

When he heard his punishment, the servant fell to his knees, begging the king to be merciful with him. He would repay everything. When he heard these words, the king forgave him and cancelled the debt.

But when the servant left the king, he came upon a man who owed him a hundred silver coins, and began choking him, and demanded that the man repay him immediately. The man fell to his knees and begged for mercy. He would repay everything.

The servant showed no mercy. He had the man thrown in jail until he could pay the debt. When the other servants saw what happened, they were outraged and told the king everything they saw.

The king called the wicked servant back and told him, "I cancelled all of your debt because you begged for mercy. Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had on you?"

The outraged king had the man thrown in jail and tortured until he could pay the debt.

When Jesus finished the story, he told his disciples, "This is how my Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart."

    The Angel Gabriel visits Mary

It came to pass that Mary was visited by the angel Gabriel, and he spoke these words to her:

"Behold you shall conceive and bring forth a son, and you shall call him Jesus.

"He shall be great, and be called the Son of the Highest.

And the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David.

"And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever.

And of his Kingdom there shall be no end.

Mary was overwhelmed by these words, and asked the angel, How can this be, seeing that I am a virgin?

The Holy Ghost shall come upon you, answered Gabriel. The power of the highest shall overshadow you; therefore that Holy thing that shall be born of you shall be called the Son of God.

Before leaving the angel gave Mary a sign that what he said was true. He told her that her older cousin Elizabeth would also be blessed with a child. And, that child would be named John.

Now Elizabeth lived far away from Mary, nearly 100 miles away in the hills of Judea. Before telling anyone about the angel’s visit, Mary set out for Judea to seek out Elizabeth, and discover the truth for herself. Once there the angel’s words were confirmed; Elizabeth was with child.

Mary stayed with Elizabeth for three months before returning to Nazareth. When she returned, her husband Joseph was unsure what to do when he found she was with child. That night he was visited by an angel in his dreams who told him, Do not fear for Mary, your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. She shall bring forth a son, who you will call Jesus; and he will save his people from their sins.

    Nativity of Jesus

There went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all of the world should be taxed.

A census was to be taken of all of the people in the Roman world. All of the Jewish people were required to go to the place of their birth to be counted. So it was that Joseph and Mary left Nazareth and headed to the city of Bethlehem to be taxed.

While they were in Bethlehem, Mary and Joseph sought shelter in a stable. It was in that humble stable Jesus was born; in a stall, beside the animals.

The day after his birth, the name of the new born Jesus was added to the census roll.

In the nearby fields, an angel appeared to the shepherds gathered there, and said to them. "Fear not. I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day, in the city of David, a savior, which is Christ the Lord.

You shall find the babe, wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

When the angel was done speaking, the shepherds watched in awe, as he ascended into the Heavens. When the angel was gone, the shepherds made their way to Bethlehem, where they found the baby Jesus lying in the manger.

After gazing upon the baby Jesus, the shepherds returned to their homes, and spread the word that the Savior was born amongst them.

Eight days after his birth, according to the ancient custom Jesus was circumcised; not in the temple, but in his home, either by Joseph, or a friend of the family. History does not tell us who performed the rite.

More important, along with the rite of circumcision followed the ceremony of naming the new child. As foretold by the angels who came to Mary and Joseph; he was named Jesus.

In those days Hebrew law commanded forty days after a male child’s birth, the mother should bring an offering to the tabernacle; a lamb for the burnt offering, and a young pigeon or turtle dove for the sin offering. If the mother was poor, and could not bring a
