      Standard Dachshunds are not in a separate classification - the difference is in their size. The miniature Dachshunds generally weigh between 8-11 pounds. If a Dachshund is over 12 months of age and weighs in over 11 pounds, it is classified as a standard. However, some rescue groups will call Dachshunds weighing between 11-18 pounds tweenies.

      The standard Dachshund is one big, bold bundle of energy. They are less prone to timidity than miniatures are because of their size – and their curiosity is unlimited. They are good with children in the family. They make excellent watchdogs with their
