About this ebook

It's the last week of school, and Mrs. Hartwell's class is excited to leave for summer vacation. The only problem is that the kids don't want their teacher to miss them while they're gone. Once again Julie Danneberg and Judy Love bring to life the crazy antics of Mrs. Hartwell and her class and show that teachers and students are more alike than different.

This book was very enjoyable to read and it shows how students think they know what their teacher is feeling. While the teacher definitely would miss her class over the vacation she was ready for a vacation herself. It shows that students look up to their teachers and that they will try hard to make them happy.

Last day blues is a wonderful book about the last days of school before summer. Last days of school are always bittersweet, you do not want to leave your fiends and classroom but you also do not to do any school work. In the book we see Mrs. Hartwells classroom decide they will get her a gift so that she can remember them over the summer. The are worried she will miss them dearly and cry over lesson plans waiting for them to return the next year. On the last day we see the children eager to give Mrs. Hartwell her gift. As the children leave on the last day they think on how much better she must feel knowing her students will miss her too. What they don't realize is that Mrs. Hartwell is excited school is over.

When you read this book, you are brought into the mind of children and teachers on the week before the last day of school. You are impressed with the impression the teacher has made on the children. This book is an excellent representation on how much impact the teacher has on the children as well as the children have on the teacher. I would read this book from age pre-k until 3rd grade because a heartfelt picture book such as this one should have almost no age limit. You will be engaged from cover to cover when reading this book because of how intriguing each of the characters develop. The author did an excellent job including the suggestions of each child on what to get their teacher on the last day of school. Representation of teamwork is shown throughout this entire picture book simply because each student has had a huge impact on the teacher.

This story is about the last day of school blues. Mrs. Hartwell was sad the whole last week of school. All the students talked about was their vacations and how they might miss the pizza and their friends. The students kept trying to think of something they could do to keep Mrs. Hartwell from having last day blues. The book's illustrations make the book even more funny. The kids think Mrs. Hartwell will just re-read lesson plans all summer and look forward the next year. The students decide to write a poem for Mrs. Hartwell. She appreciates the poem but still seems bummed about the last day of school. On the last day of school, the kids all leave and the illustrations show sad staff members as the bus drives away. When you turn the page all the teachers and staff are jumping up and down celebrating the last day of school. I loved this book, its like the whole time I was reading it I wondered why Mrs. Hartwell was so sad. This story is how some students may think their teachers feel when the school year. I would recommend this book to k-5. This is a perfect book to read on the last day of school and I can't wait to read it to my class.

The Last Day Blues – By Julie Danneberg (Picture Book)I had mixed reactions to the story, The Last Day Blues, by Julie Danneberg. It is a story about the final week of school and how all the children are feeling down because they do not want the school year to end. The children join together and decide to make a present for their teacher because they assumed she must be feeling much more blue then they are. They give their teacher the present and she thanks them and says she misses them but then the end of the story results in the all the teachers so excited for summer vacation. I liked the story because it would be a cute story to share on the last week of school to excite children for the summer. However, I did not like the ending how the teachers were excited because to a young child it could seem that the teacher was pretending to be upset or be blue about the school year ending. The pictures were of very good quality though. The pictures engage the readers and make them interested in the story.

This was a very cute book that shows a teacher needs a summer break just as much as her students do. Reading this book would be a great way to bring up the topic of how everyone plans to spend their summer. Or the teacher could introduce the book and then discuss “Last Day Blues.” Then they could have the students write about their thoughts of the school year and how they think the last day will be for them.

As if the teachers *and* the kids aren't totally excited about the last day of school -- still, cute, and an unusual subject. At least it's not another first day of school book!
