Introduction
Disclaimer: If you need help, see a doctor. No part of this book is intended as medical advice. If you try to claim it is, I’ll claim that you don’t read well. If you are a lawyer, I’ll add that American lawsuits have ruined society, art, and basic responsibility by demanding that we state the obvious every time we turn around. A day of deliverance is coming, but it is not this day, unfortunately. Until then, I’m still going to enjoy myself. You should try to also.
I hate reading introductions almost as much as I hate writing them. But I know they serve a purpose. Tea is similar, along with anything in life. We may have questions about the book not answered in the book. So, here’s why I wrote this book—and the introduction…
It began after a friend gave me a book on luxury sales management. I’m not a luxury fan for glamour alone. Luxury companies tend to make better products than other brands, though not always. I’ve found that I can glean from anyone and I prefer to learn from others based on what they’ve done. I learn things from observing the luxury industry just as you can learn something about tea from me.
After almost six years in Asia, friends in America were interested in learning about Asian Kung Fu tea. I would teach some of the principles. But explaining the concept and the purpose of the process… That was a problem.
So, as I read the book on luxury sales, I came to a chapter that explored the importance of having a company book
. I wrote more about that in another freebook, Know Each Other. Here, I’ll just say that the purpose of having a company book isn’t so much about making money as it is about appreciating people.
Many people want to understand what made Steve Jobs tick. Likewise, salesmen want to know about their own company. Customers want to understand what an inventor had in mind. People want to know the story
—especially if it’s their story. That is what a company book
should be about. It’s not just a marketing ploy. It’s not another page from the business school playbook. It’s a much-needed Thank you.
When Jesse Yonge sales were just starting, people needed help understanding Asian tea. Not only is the tea different, but our reasons why we do what we do also a bit unusual. So, when a friend’s book on
