What Are Big Cats?
In the long, dry grass of the African savannah, a stealthy shape creeps toward a herd of antelope. A moment later, a cheetah bursts into action, chasing a small antelope at top speed. The cheetah’s prey cannot outrun it and the slender cat brings it down. The cat will not go hungry today.
Cheetahs are mammals that are often included in a group called big cats. The general term big cat

Big cats live in different habitats around the world, ranging from the rainforests of South America to African grasslands and the mountains of Southeast Asia. Some, such as leopards, can climb trees while others, such as tigers, are strong swimmers. Lions are the only big cats to routinely live in groups, called prides. All big cats have coloring or patterns on their fur that help to conceal them as they hunt.
