    Shadow Dancer

    Manchester, UK

1 year after the defeat of Richard Adamson (A.K.A. Iron Giant)…

Miles stood on the ledge of an unfinished Savage Steel factory and gazed down into its belly. This one was a new addition to Manchester. An entire country separated him from his old apartment in France, but that didn’t matter much anymore. The corporation was growing exponentially and showed no signs of stopping. Like Arc said, they did go quiet for a while, but around six or seven months after the fact, some noticeable changes appeared in the nature of the beast.

I hope you’re right about this one, Simon, he said.

Miles stepped on a circular disc of pennies and navigated down to the foyer where his feet promptly touched an open patch of uncovered grass. He scanned his surroundings with a keen eye. He didn’t sense the presence of any change in the area, at least besides the goons in front. He took care of them well enough. Still, Savage Steel was learning. The last factory had their guardsmen empty their pockets as well.

My, who do we have here? somebody said.

It was the voice of a young woman.

Awfully confident to announce yourself before the first strike, Miles replied.

Your resonance doesn’t scare me, Short Change.

A shadowy vestige appeared in front of him, the silhouette of a woman. He squinted his eyes to make out the details, but before he could, the shadow disappeared. She was a resonance user, no doubt about that. The only question was … well, there were a ton of questions, but most important was the nature of her resonance.

Clearly, this is the first time we’ve met.

And it’ll be the last. I assure you.

This time, it came from behind him. Miles spun around and caught the blade of a knife wedged between two nickels. A pair of hands gripped the handle firmly, and Miles got a good look at her. Short hair and fair skin. She wore a uniform that bore a Savage Steel insignia. Simon was right after all, but how did she cross the distance so fast? His powers didn’t faze her demeanor though. She pulled back and disappeared before he could ascertain what happened.

Still hiding, I see, Miles shouted. He looked around to spot where she disappeared off to but to no avail. Instead, his stare stopped short of a good hundred flashlights in the middle of the night, all of them beaming at him. Crud.

A crackling like popcorn kernels broke the silence as a storm of metal ripped through the stale
