    Introduction

This book was compiled from the five-part Series entitled Righteousness that I taught in 2012 for Without Walls Online Bible School. If you are interested, these teachings are available at http://supernaturalhousechurch.org.

It is a pleasure for me to teach on righteousness. It is a very important subject. Many Christians feel they cannot come into the presence of God without feeling guilty or inferior. They do not have the right understanding what happened when Jesus died on the cross and all that He purchased for us. They struggle to gain God’s acceptance and feel God cannot love someone like themselves.

The understanding of righteousness is life changing! No more struggle to gain God’s acceptance, but knowing He accepts you and loves you fully right now; knowing that you are welcome and worthy to be in His presence and that you are clean and pure because of the blood of Jesus!

My prayer for you is that this teaching will change your understanding about who you really are in the eyes of God! That will give you great peace and will set you free to serve Him and walk with Him!

    CHAPTER ONE

    What is Righteousness?

I will first lay the foundation so that we can all see what righteousness is, what happened when Adam sinned, and what Jesus did. I like to dive into the Word when teaching and I use a lot of scriptures. So, have your Bible, a piece of paper, and a pen available so you can write things down. Then you can study it for yourself later.

Let’s get started! The Bible says in Romans 14:17 that the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. So righteousness is an important part of the kingdom of God. When we don’t have the right understanding of our righteousness in Christ, we feel guilty about our past, guilty when we sin today, or when we do something wrong, are not friendly or whatever. With sin consciousness you think, oh, wow, I totally missed it; I am a failure! And because of that sin consciousness we feel we cannot freely or boldly go to God.

Many Christians have a wrong understanding. They think they can never be righteous in this life on earth because they still have a body of flesh and still sin. They think that only when they get to heaven will they be righteous. Or, they think that we can somehow earn our righteousness; or that only when we do not sin are we righteous but the moment we sin we have lost it! That is like saying we weren’t ever saved and our righteousness depends on what we do or don’t do. Or, they think there are ways that we can get God to love us more or that we can do things that will cause God to love us less. None of those things are true!

In James 1:22–25 it says the Word of God is like a mirror. It says, but be doers of the Word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves, for if anyone is a hearer of the Word and not a doer, it is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself and goes away and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it and is not forgetful and is a doer of the Word, then this one will be blessed in what he does.

So, the Word is compared to a mirror. We women know how a mirror works. We look into a mirror and check our hair. If you see that your hair is a mess, would you walk away and do nothing about it? What use is it then to look into the mirror? No, you want to fix your hair and do something about the mess. You get some hairspray or a brush to fix it. The mirror shows you the condition so you can do something about it.

That is also true about the Word. When the Word says something and we see that we are not the way we should be or should think, then we have to adjust it and do something about it. Otherwise, it is like looking into the mirror, forgetting who you are and just going your own way. And I love what it says in James 1:25, it is the perfect law of liberty. When you have a revelation of what God says about you, about who you are, it always liberates and sets you free. The Word is never there to place us into bondage. Satan is the one who puts us into bondage, and makes us captives. I am so glad that God always liberates us!

So, understanding righteousness is life changing. With this understanding you will no longer struggle to gain God’s acceptance because you will know in your heart that He loves you. And He loves you because of what Jesus did on the cross and not because of what you did or do right now. And you know that you are worthy and welcome to come into His presence; and that you are clean and pure because of the blood of Jesus.

The definition of righteousness is: The quality or character of being right or just or to be in right standing before God. The Amplified Bible says it is the state that makes a person acceptable to God. Wow! E. W. Kenyon says it like this: Righteousness is the ability to stand in the presence of the Father God without a sense of guilt or inferiority. That is amazing, you know? It is like you have never sinned before. Actually that is what it is; you are free like you have never sinned before. And you are made acceptable to God.

    Man Was Created Righteous

Let’s go to Genesis to see how man was created. We all know about heaven and the fall of man in Genesis, but let’s go to Genesis 1 and set this foundation.

Genesis 1:26–27 says, Then God said, let us make man in our image according to our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, over the cattle and all of the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. So, God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.

We were made in His image and according to His likeness. We have eyes, ears, a mouth, hands and feet because God is like that. The Bible talks about the eyes of God searching throughout the earth. It talks about God’s feet, and how His ears are open to everyone. So, we are made in God’s likeness, but we are also made according to His image. First of all we were made as spirits. In John 4:24 it says God is a spirit and to worship Him we must worship in spirit and in truth. So God is a spirit and
