In Vain: Collected Poems
()
About this ebook
In Vain is the first literary collection of poems by Mavis J. Pearl about unrequited love and its disappointments. While some poems depict the intensity of love and attraction from the point of view of a girl trying to come to terms with her own emotions, others reveal the agony behind loving too much and never been loved enough. The journey invites along variations of disappointment. It also brings together the power that the quest for belonging has over a person who has yet to understand adulthood. Beneath the fear of never finding a real connection, an inner strength surfaces. The ups and downs throughout the journey lead to the moment of realisation that love only follows one’s own acceptance.

Alone at Last
I know I cannot convince you to stay
And know that I hear every word that you say
But I can’t hear the words you say to her
Your love for her is still just a blur.
Maybe you think she makes you whole
And she’s the one who saved your soul
I have done nothing in all those years
To deserve your love, as it appears.
You say in those years you became a man
You will
