    The Red Kangaroo

    (Macropus rufus)

He is spread in Australia, especially in the southern side, living particularly in the semi-desert regions and in stretched grass plains. His vertical position is distinctive, lying on his hind feet, which are very long and strong, endorsing on his thick and long tail. His forefeet are much shorter and the animal uses them as hands, grabbing the food that he takes to his mouth. His head is relatively small, with thick and directed upwards ears. The color of his short fur is of a reddish-brown. The kangaroos walk in groups, pasturing especially at night, spending the day secluded in thickets. The groups usually count 8-12 exemplars. Though timid and skittish animals, which accustom to save themselves by huge leaps that reach lengths of 8-10 m, the kangaroos also protect themselves of the dangerous enemies, and namely, of the dingo or of the domestic dogs, with their fearful weapon, the nail from the forth hind feet nail, with which they can tear the aggressor.
