As her Grandpa naps on the sofa, Lizzie minds the family antique store. When the extravagantly rich Mrs. Bradley Larchmont III enters the shop and begins a buying spree, she refuses to leave without bargaining for an unexpected item . . . Lizzie's Grandpa! As the stakes rise, Lizzie imagines all of the fabulous things she could buy with the money she is offered. But what fun would a sailboat, an ice cream parlor, or an amusement park be without Grandpa? Readers will enjoy the clever play between gray tones and vivid color that illustrates Lizzie's growing conflict. This farcical storyline, coupled with vibrant paintings, ultimately stresses the importance of family and friendship over material possessions and selfish, money-driven desires.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5What would you do if you were offered $500.00? $10,000? $50,000? The only catch is that you will have to sell your grandfather to receive the money. Would you? In this endearing picture book a little girl, left in charge of her mother’s antique store, is faced with this very question. If she sold her grandfather she could build a boat, a perfect tree house, or even an amazing ice cream store. But would they be any fun without her grandfather to help her out? Her choice may surprise you. The illustrations in this book are cartoonish and use color in a very intriguing fashion. On each page only certain parts of the picture are in full color while the rest of the page is in black and white. The pieces containing color are emphasized and stand out more vividly against the rest while the black and white images are used to denote backgrounds or things that may not be there (such as her grandfather in her visions of what she could do with her money) They lend a flair to this book that help engage the reader. Overall, with the fun story line and the catchy pictures, this book is one for anybody’s collection.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5In this book, Lizzie – a young girl minding her mother’s antique store for the day – learns just how important her grandfather is to her when a shopper offers thousands of dollars to buy Lizzie’s sleeping grandfather, but Lizzie refuses when she realizes how much she would miss him. The illustrations in this book are clever, in that color drawings are used for the people or objects being profiled and black and white drawings are used for background content. For example, when Lizzie thinks of things she could buy with thousands of dollars, her grandfather is drawn in black and white while the rest of the picture is in color because he would not be there. This book was viewed as an e-book. In this format, the illustrations were clear, the text was dark enough to read, and the reader could zoom in and out of the pages. However, being able to only view one page at a time limited the enjoyableness of reading the book since some of the illustrations covered two pages. Overall, this book is recommended for reading, either as an e-book or a paperback, since it teaches lessons about the importance and value of family.
