SAVED BY GRACE
THEME:
WHAT IT MEANS TO BE SAVED!
Selected Scripture:
Ephesians 2:1-10
Introduction
Eva and Clark were heading to the toy store with their mother to find a birthday present for their cousin. Eva and Clark’s mother told them both before they went into the store, Stay with me at all times so that you don’t get lost!
Eva and Clark were so excited to be at the store shopping that they hurriedly agreed and promised to stay with their mother at all times.
But something happened between their making that promise and their looking at all of the toys on the shelf. Clark stayed with his mother, but Eva decided there was a toy that she just couldn’t help but touch. When Eva turned to find her brother and her mother, they were both gone without a trace. Eva got scared when she was not able to find her mother.
Then she heard her mother’s voice, Oh, Eva, there you are! I was looking for you—I knew that one of you would get tempted by these toys. I am glad that I found you again. Here is a small toy for you. Now you must promise to stay with me from now on!
Eva was so relieved that her mother didn’t get angry with her. On top of that, her mother still let her have a small toy just for helping her pick out a present for her cousin, despite her getting lost. For the rest of the shopping trip, Eva stuck close to her mother and never left her side again.

PREPARING TO TEACH
EXAMPLES FOR JESUS POINTERS
(AGES 12-14)
1. Ask the students if they have accepted Jesus as their Savior. After this, pose the question of how it was even made possible to be saved in the first place. Then explain to the class that today’s lesson will deal with the grace of God and what it truly means to be saved.
2. Next, ask the question whether or not they deserved to be saved. Ask the students to first think about this question and then give you a response.
3. Ask a volunteer to read Ephesians 2:1-10. Use the Lesson Review to reinforce the points of the lesson.
4. Ask the students if they have anything that they like to boast about. First make sure that they know what the word boast means. Listen to their responses. Explain that no person can boast or brag about getting into the good graces of God through any type of good works. No person is capable of such a feat because all people are sinful. Explain that without the unmerited favor of God’s grace, there would be no salvation for people.
THE TEEN ENQUIRER POINTERS
(AGES 15-17)
1. At the beginning of class, ask the students if any have accepted Jesus as their Savior. Ask volunteers to share the process of how they came to know Jesus as their Savior and accept Him in their hearts. Explain that today’s lesson will cover how people are saved by God’s grace.
2. Next, ask the students if they have ever been favored before. How did it feel? Did it make them feel special? Did they do anything out of the ordinary to deserve it? Listen to their responses. Next, explain about God’s grace and that it is unmerited favor. Just as they might have experienced some type of favoritism that was freely bestowed on them without their earning it, the same is true with God’s grace.
3. Next, accept volunteers to read Ephesians 2:1-10. Use the Lesson Review to reinforce points in today’s lesson.
4. Ask the students to explain verses 8-9. Explain that there was nothing that we could do to fix the relationship between humankind and God. No one is capable of such a feat. Only Jesus could fix that rift.
