About this ebook

Michael loves interesting words (hard words like ELASTIC, little words like VAST, and big words like SMITHEREENS) and is always on the lookout for words to collect. Then one day, he picks up a new word. A bad word. An inappropriate word. At least, that's what his friend says. But Michael kind of likes the word. He thinks he might try it out.

At school.

Bad idea.

Great read aloud for 4th grade character building lessons. A story students can identify with and enjoy the humor simultaneously. Everyone has heard a word that they weren't sure what it was, but got that little feeling that it wasn't really a nice one. This story shares with students what happens when you take that word out to play!

What a hilarious book about the trouble an inappropriate word can get you in! LOVED the interplay of the words and illustrations ... plenty of humor in this book to keep adults entertained as well as kids.

Great vocab building picture book. If I was still teaching English, would make a great lesson on word choice, and how the best way to improve vocabulary use is to just read.

I enjoyed reading this book. I like how the words that the main character was learning, were inside their own picture. For example, the word "cat" would be written on an image of a "cat" I also like how Tobin demonstrated an example of positive discipline in this book that many others should use. She took a problem and solved it with another another problem, resolving the initial problem in the end. I believe this is Tobin's purpose for writing. "Don't scold a child for saying a bad word, simply give them a book to look up other words, so they can forget the bad word they had learned. I like this book a lot and even learned some new words myself.
