Introduction
What are the benefits to eating healthier foods? The benefits are in making the immune system stronger and thus the whole body feels better. Making a lifestyle change in dieting requires commitment and patience. If you have been eating a junk food diet then your body craves the junk, the sugars, and processed foods. The more you eat, the more you crave. The more junk you eat, the worse your immune system will be in fighting off infections and germs. A person on a junk food diet is lethargic and sluggish. They will likely start to have health issues eventually.
Why does the body break down when not eating the right foods? If you consider that food is the best source for nutrients for the body, you can see how eating foods with no nutritional value can cause you to become sick after a while. You can take supplements to replace the lack of nutrients from your food, and this is better than nothing is, but the best ways to receive the nutrients you need are direct from the natural sources, in the food itself.
If it is so easy to receive nutrients from the foods we eat, why do people still eat junk food? Aside from the fact that once the junk food diet is consumed on a regular basis, people become addicted to it. It is like smoking a cigarette or drinking alcohol, it becomes a habit, and the body craves more of it. We must break this habit like we break any habit in order to turn our health around. The question then becomes how do we break the junk food habit?
In breaking the junk food habit, we must realize why people consume junk food in the first place, aside from satisfying the craving. Junk food has another term that makes it sound not so bad: convenient foods, or fast foods. Convenient foods are quick and easy to grab and eat. Just like driving through the drive through window at a fast food restaurant, convenient foods are found in the grocery, masking as nutrition right alongside the ingredients for healthier recipes. They promise to be quick and easy to cook. Ah, so this is why people eat convenient foods, because they are so busy they just want to buy the food, have it ready to eat immediately and continue with their busy lives. What if you can, with just a little extra effort, turn your eating habits around?
This book contains recipes that are actually not too difficult to prepare. The biggest preparation comes in grocery shopping. Instead of grabbing all those convenient foods, reach for the fresh whole ingredients and spend just a few extra minutes in preparing a fresh home cooked meal that is so much healthier for you over the junk food. Eat right for three weeks and you will break that junk food habit. Your body will be healthy for it because you are supplying it with all the nutrients it needs to thrive.
Following the Mediterranean diet or the Dairy Free diet are easy enough by following the suggestion and recipes in this book. The recipes call for foods readily available at most grocery stores. If you are pressed for time, carve out some time to prepare the foods in advance. Some meals can be refrigerated or frozen, so all you will have to do is cook it. The payoff for eating nutritious foods is well worth the effort and time
it takes to prepare it.
By going on these diets, you will have benefits that stretch beyond the obvious. For one thing, the health benefits should be the main reason you want to eat right. If you do a study of the people in the Mediterranean region, you will find they are healthier due to consuming the fruits and vegetables grown in that land. They have healthier hearts and are at healthier weight levels. It is a lesson we can all benefit from by looking at their diet and mocking their diet plan.
In the same respect, the dairy free diet offers some excellent meals that help to make us healthy. So many people suffer from dairy allergies or intolerances. Even if you have not been diagnosed with such a condition, you may find that going dairy free you feel better and have more energy.
One of the biggest side effects
to eating a healthy diet and making a lifestyle change to keeping a healthy diet is weight management. When you deprive the body of the unhealthy fats and carbs (the junk foods) the body no longer has the substances to create fat. By filling the body is good foods that gives you high nutrients, the body is able to metabolize the foods easier. This helps the body to burn off the unwanted fat and calories and thus the excessive weight falls off leaving you at healthy weight level.
Being overweight causes undesirable health issues like hypertension, inflammation (that can aggravate arthritis), and many other health issues. Sometimes just by losing weight you can stop many of these bad health conditions and reverse the effect they have on the body. Consuming the dairy free or the Mediterranean diet will help with weight loss and with maintaining a good weight level. Make the dieting a lifestyle change and the weight will continue to stay at a healthy level.
