    Introduction

This book contains two different diet plans, one being the Grain Free Diet and the other being the Smoothie Diet. Each diet has great benefits offering healthy choices within the diet. The two are very interchangeable since most of the smoothie recipes contain no grain. A few do, so be sure to read the ingredients if you are interchanging the two. Each of these diet plans gives nutritious recipes, so if your goal is simply to eat healthier you have the right book. The two diets offer different reasons for dieting as well.

The benefits of a grain free diet are many, though the main reason is the absence of grains. Some individuals are either allergic to grains or they have a grain intolerance, which gives them very unpleasant side effects. By going grain free they alleviate their symptoms and feel better. Other reasons are to help with weight management or to just be healthier. If you do go grain free you can receive the same nutrients you would from grains in other foods such as flax seeds and brown rice.

Eating grains, wheat in particular, causes some people great digestive issues. This is one of the top symptoms of having gluten intolerance. Other conditions aggravated by wheat are celiac disease. By going grain free these two ailments are treated and helped. One of the biggest culprits of eating grains is that it can cause inflammation in the body. This is what makes arthritis, allergies, asthma, bone loss, cardiovascular issues, and even mental problems (emotional). Consuming wheat flour can cause the inflammation to flare which aggravates those conditions. Arthritis in particular, is aggravated by the consumption of grains.

As far as the amount of time the human race has been consuming grains, it is actually a short amount of time compared to the consumption of other foods. It has only been in the past ten thousand years or so that humans began creating foods from grains. For the rest of history humankind did not eat wheat.

As mentioned above, consuming grains can aggravate conditions that cause bone loss. This occurs because the grains stop the body's ability to absorb minerals properly. Not all grains do this, only grains that have not sprouted, been soaked, or allowed to sour may cause the body's inability to absorb the minerals needed to keep bones strong and healthy.

The smoothie diet is an excellent diet to help lose weight and to help cleanse the body of impurities. You can do a straight smoothie diet, where all your meals and snacks are smoothies, or you can do a modified smoothie diet where 2 of your meals and snacks are smoothies and one meal (normally supper) consists of healthy whole foods like lean meats, fresh vegetables and fruits. Or do a complete combination, doing half of the meals and snacks as smoothies and half as grain free recipes.

Need help in deciding which diet plan to choose? Try a good mix and match of the two, which will work well regardless if you are eating gluten free for your health or if you are choosing to do so for a lifestyle change. Try a combination of the two if you are dieting to lose fat and weight.

If weight loss is the main goal, both of the diets are excellent starting points. The grain free diet is also free of anything sugary, processed, or junky. The smoothie diet allows for lower calories and the ability to do a good thorough cleanse of the body, which helps in weight loss.

If you are aiming for significant weight loss try starting off with just the smoothie diet, drinking the smoothies for every meal. Do this for a week or up to three weeks. You may see the pounds start to melt away. After you've lost the first bit of weight, add one grain free meal to the day for a couple of weeks. Keep adding a grain free meal or snack until you are eating the two diets equally throughout the day. Many enjoy a smoothie for breakfast and then for their snacks while eating the grain free meals for lunch and supper. You will eventually work out a diet plan and routine that will fit with your lifestyle.

What can you do to help break bad habits and make these diets a lifestyle change? It takes about three weeks of doing something to make it a habit, and in the same respect, it takes about three weeks to break a habit. Being a junk food junkie is a bad habit. By breaking this bad habit and replacing it by eating nutritious recipes instead, you are also helping your body to have a stronger immune system. This is one of many good side effects to eating a better and more nutritious diet.

The body pulls nutrients from the foods we eat. If we only shovel in bad foods, foods with no nutrients, then our body starts to fail by having a compromised immune system. If the immune system is compromised, we become sickly and weak as a result. Not only will we come down with all the germs that cross our path (colds, flu, stomach bugs, etc.) we are at risk for more debilitating conditions. It is so easy to turn this around by eating foods with high nutrient content. By giving our bodies the nutrients it actually craves, it strengthens the immune system. When this happens, we do not get sick as easily. We may be able to fight off those germs and stay healthy. And certainly our bodies may be able to fight off more substantial illnesses and health conditions.

Make the right choices in the foods you eat. Both the grain free diet and the smoothie diet give you a wide variety of foods and nutritious ingredients to choose from for making all your meals and snacks every day. These diets satisfy the hunger and after a while we feel better, stronger and have more energy.

    Section 1: Grain Free Diet

What are the benefits of eating a grain free diet? Normally people who go on a grain free diet are ones who suffer from grain allergies and intolerances. Unfortunately, many do suffer from such issues. Really, the issues are with the protein of the grain, the gluten.

Grains are found in breads, pastas, and flours and come from corn, barley, wheat, oats and bajra. Another grain is rice, but rice does not contain gluten. Rice is not a protein it is a starch. Rice is included in this grain free diet book since it is not gluten. The replacement for grains comes from foods like peas and legumes (beans), soy, and nuts. But when people refer to a grain free diet they literally mean a wheat free diet, or a diet that is gluten free.

Some of the recipes within this book do contain corn and oats, but none of the recipes contains wheat or gluten. With this in mind, always check
