- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This is a beautiful little book that is packed with knowledge! More than that, it contains a holistic approach to lifestyle in general. It's important, with out busy lives that we take time each day to "care" for ourselves. This book allows you to explore ways to improve not only your face, but your attitude in general. It is very down to earth and user friendly and all in all, a great addition to your general knowledge of fitness and beauty. There are many aspects of this book that I intend to put to good use!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Simple exercises to work into your daily routine. Some even make you laugh out loud, but in the name of a youthful face, no problem. Exercising your face muscles like the rest of the body makes sense and keeps them strong and supple.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a really simple book with great information. I was pleasantly surprised and pleased to find more than just Yoga for the face in its pages. There are breathing, abdominal and spine exercises, movements for flexibility and body-toning plus a wonderful guide for meditation and nutrition. I also really liked the fact that not only did the exercises tell you what part of the body you were working on as far as bone and musculature, but also for the inner organs. I loved the nutrition part in the book that showed healthy and unhealthy food combinations when planning menus. It all made perfect sense to me. I'm going to adopt the things I need and make them a part of my daily life. And, Lourdes Julian Cabuk is gorgeous! And 10 years older than me! Obviously she practices what she preaches. (Yes, I know genes play a roll, but all of the information in this book has its roll too.)I would recommend this book for beginners, advanced practitioners -- the whole book just has a peaceful presence about it and again, sensible, realistic information.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I have been known to massage my face, especially my forehead and under my eyes, and usually when I am suffering from a headache or some sinus issue. My husband will say, Don't push on your face -- it looks weird! Stop stressing out! Who knew he was almost totally right? As most of us know, stress (that unmeasurable, not-always-recognizable thing) is a big cause of premature aging, and it is hard on your appearance. The practice of yoga itself has been shown to help people deal with stress more effectively, but Yoga for A Beautiful Face also shows several facial exercises and techniques (similar to my own "face-pushing"!) that the author claims will work the facial muscles and reduce signs of aging. Unfortunately, many of these exercises do look weird, and a quick flip through the book might make a person shy away from it altogether. Still, there are some nice illustrations of facial musculature, and it offers validation to those of us who feel compelled to "massage" our faces.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The subtitle of this book is Easy Exercises to Help You Look Young Again. Judging by the photographs, the author, Lourdes Julian Cabuk, is either blessed with good genetics or these facial exercises are indeed effective. The book is divided into three parts. Part 1 explains the 17 facial exercises. The descriptions are accessible and the photographs of each exercise are large and easy to see. The color palate of the photographs in this section - mainly pink and chartreuse - is calming. These exercises can be done alone or added onto your usual yoga practice. Part 2 focuses on yoga poses for the abdomen and spine, many incorporating the use of a chair, and breathing exercises. I particularly liked the section on internal and external cleansing that is part of the daily exercise program. The majority of this section will be familiar to those who already practice yoga. Part 3 outlines a daily ( actually 6 days a week) program of basic yoga, meditation, mudras ( an extensive listing) and nutrition. There is a chart of Healthy and Unhealthy Food Combinations. My only problem with this book is in regard to this chart. The chart gives the combination of cheese and dairy products a 1. 1 being a perfect combination of food. Two pages prior to the chart the author stated that cheese and ice cream (a dairy product) are the two most fattening foods. Since cheese, milk, yogurt and butter are each listed separately on the chart I can only assume that the category dairy products consists of ice cream and other creams. Anyway, I didn't understand how this food combination could be considered perfect. Beyond that issue I found the book informative and have already started incorporating the facial exercises and cleansing into my daily routine. Only time will tell if they will make me beautiful.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5On the plus side, "Yoga for a Beautiful Face" is a nicely designed book on high quality thick glossy paper, with quality illustrations and photos. It feels like a sincere, well meaning book. The title, however, is misleading. The facial exercise portion of the book is the first 45 pages only. Half of these pages contain an illustration indicating which portions of the facial musculature are engaged during an exercise, along with a brief explanation of the exercise. The other half of these pages are images of the author captured at one or two points in the exercise, leaving the reader to fill in the parts of the exercises not illustrated.. The book contains a total of 17 facial exercises. For someone who has never seen facial exercises before, this collection will cover the basics. I'd seen nearly all of the exercises before, mostly in a Cynthia Rowland "Facial Magic" video from the 1990s that I'd picked up in a thrift store. While the presentation is more modern in this book, I think the author would have been better served to create a DVD for this material. I find the old VHS tape's demonstrations of the exercises more helpful and there is more explanatory material spoken in the tape than is contained in the text of this book. However, the book is easier to jump to the exercise you want to do than a VHS tape. There are an additional 90 pages of basic yoga moves along with some advice pages that seem a bit out there to me. For example, there's a page that links a long list of conditions and diseases with each vertebra. In this list, pimples and wrinkles result from calcification of the 11th vertebra according to the author. Really? Overall, while I would say seeing these 17 exercises demonstrated would be better, this book does give someone a starting point and the explanations are adequate. The rest of the book wasn't anything I expected or needed (I have yoga tapes and basic books already), but might interest some people. I don't think it would be the best general introduction to beginning yoga, but the stretching, breathing, and relaxation exercises shown might be helpful to some.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a lovely book. It is small, 8' x 9' so it's easy to manage. The format is very nice, mantras are printed separately on pages with flowing, curving caligraphy. All the pictures, one on almost every page, are full page and color. Directions are simple and printed one at a time down the page. The exercises for face seem very effective. The book goes on to discuss body health, yoga, diet, mudras. and meditation. There is a chart of bad or good food combinations. And the wonderful thing about this book is that it exudes calm and tranquility. It is a pleasure to work with, highly recommended.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The cleverness of this book is in the title, causing it to stand out from the crowd of other yoga books. It will llikely draw buyers who may not be particularly interested in yoga, but are interested in making themselves look better. Although there are yoga exercises specifically for the face, the book also contains other, more standard, yoga poses that encompass the whole body. Who knows, perhaps some vain little creature will be drawn to it, get hooked and become the next yoga master. Cute, trendy, but ultimately useful. Off to practice my downward dog.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The whole idea of yoga can be very intimidating but, especially as we get a little older, it's important to do some kind of physical activity. "Yoga for a Beautiful Face" presents a series of simple exercises geared toward overall health. They do not seem terribly complicated, althought it wisely includes disclaimers to discuss any changes in physical activity or diet with one's doctor. I'm not certain the "for a beautiful face" aspect is as important as the overall benefits of improved breathing and flexibility that comes with yoga, but I think presenting the reader with exercises for more than one physical system, however simple, makes this a good starting point for anyone with an interest in starting a program of yoga.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Having taken yoga classes for the past 15+ years I am very familiar with the poses in the book, other than some of the facial ones. I thought from the title that all the poses would be for the facial muscles, which was my interest. I think the title is misleading, although it served its purpose of getting me to want the book. The explanations are simple and she stresses the breathing components, which are key to yoga. My only complaint is the sun salutations at the end of the book. These poses are not addressed in the first part of the book and I believe that anyone wishing to do them should have more direction that was is provided. All in all, this is a good book for anyone who wishes some gentle exercises. Even people that have been doing yoga can always benefit from learning some new poses.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5When I received "Yoga for a Beautiful Face" by Lourdes Julian Cabuk as part of Early Reviewers program and had a peek inside, I was pleasantly surprised: it had much more to offer than just yoga for your face. Only Part One deals with face exercises, Part Two is Yoga for the Rest of Your Body - and this portion of the book deals with many familiar yoga postures. Part Three gives us a Daily Program. I have been doing yoga for more than 30 years and am always pleased to have a look at various interpretations of basic postures and exercises - and this book had plenty of them: great photos and clear instructions. I especially liked the chapter on Breathing - correct breathing being so invaluable in yoga practice and life in general. Another little gem was a chapter on Hand Gestures (Mudras) - very informative. Good Nutrition is also given attention in the book, and even a write up correct food combinations. I have tried the face exercises and they are quite good in strengthening face muscles. All in all - a very good book.

Additionally, it is an attractive and well illustrated book. The book is in three parts: There are 17 facial exercises in Part I, starting with the forehead massage, and covering strengthening or tightening forehead, cheek, chin and neck muscles. Part II: Yoga for the Rest of the Body starts with a general overview, and includes breathing exercises, and exercises for the abdomen and spine. Part III: A Simple Daily Program, includes seven basic yoga exercises, Sun and Moon Salutations (27 poses), relaxation pose, and brief sections on meditation, mudras or hand gestures, and nutrition.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5In Yoga for a Beautiful Face, Lourdes Julian Çabuk exceeded the limitations of her title. She does indeed give yoga exercises to smooth out wrinkles and tone the skin. Each exercise is accompanied by gorgeous photographs that leave the reader no doubt as to how to execute the exercise.However, our faces are maps to what goes on internally. Çabuk asserts that a “radiant facial beauty stems from a healthy lifestyle including exercise and nutrition.” Çabuk lays out an easy to follow daily program that contains proven paths to a healthier existence. Highly recommended!

The book is very well organized discussing not only facial Yoga but also some Yoga for the rest of the body, sample programs, and the importance of relaxation and nutrition.The book itself is beautiful with attractive pictures as an adjunct to the written explanations for the exercises. The descriptions of the exercises are easy to follow with explanations what they are for. I was happy to see the emphasis on breathing and breath control.According to Time Magazine (StinchfieldK, Dec 3, 2007) Facial Yoga is gaining a following for many including those who might alternatively use Botox. One must remember not to over stretch or over exercise those small facial muscles. Cabuk’s book seems to take one carefully through the process.Facial Yoga might also be used to relieve facial pain, help cancer patients who have facial issues and assist in relaxation. Since I haven’t started the regimen yet I will have to get back to you in about a year to see where this has led me.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Though my initial reaction to the title induced a little giggle, I was unexpectedly very impressed with this book! The layout was great and easy to maneuver, and the actual information and techniques themselves were presented in a way that was informative and allowed for understanding. Interestingly enough, my absolute favorite part of the book was the end chapters. It spanned beyond yoga for the face and spoke about maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I was absolutely thrilled when I turned to the last couple of pages and found a food combining chart. I was blown away, yet so encouraged, that they thought to include this. Food combining has been a huge diet and health practice for me and I've seen great results, so I'm so grateful to have such a great resource now. When about to cook a meal, I can now flip to the end of my "Yoga for a Beautiful Face" book and refer to the thoughtfully formatted chart. I actually wish that the book had expanded on this. Perhaps the author(s) should consider writing an entire book on diet and food combining itself. For me, that may induce a full 4 or 5 star review! Rock on.
