Satisfaction - Harry Jay
Introduction
I am not saying this because I am in any need, for I have learned to be content in whatever situation I am in. I know how to be humble, and I know how to prosper. In each and every situation I have learned the secret of being full and of going hungry, of having too much and of having too little.
– The Apostle Paul in the Book of Philippians
In a world seemingly spinning out of control with the excesses of Wall Street being displayed in Technicolor on all the evening newscasts, it seemed like a really good idea to write a book on the subject of satisfaction.
No one seems satisfied with anything…the economy, with gas prices, with their job prospects, and more. For many, satisfaction is elusive and fleeting at best, but the following points pretty much sum up what I have seen in my research and I am sure these points have come up in each and every one of your lives. I will discuss these points within the pages of this book and hopefully put to rest some of your questions and confusions.
Why is it that once we attain some goal that it then becomes not enough? Not enough money, not enough stuff, not enough love…a never ending cycle of not enough
?
The world teaches us that we are not labeled failures
as long as we keep trying but in our quest to achieve and become satisfied with our achievements we tend to employ things that have not worked in the past and will not work in the future so failure is always guaranteed but we still keep this vicious cycle going.
There are many forms of deception but the very worst is self-deception.
We have an incredible tendency to fool ourselves into believing we are right and that we are on the right path to satisfaction and happiness when all along this very path leads to destruction of our ideals, beliefs, hope and sometimes even our lives. We see other people that have what we want and just can’t figure out why they have it all and we don’t.
Some people seem always to be satisfied or content and we see this and marvel in it but wonder why this is so for other people but not us. What do these people have that we do not?
We all know people that have tried and lost whether in love, business, etc. They seem to accept these defeats and seem to be satisfied with what they are or have become. Is this a good thing?
When you read all of the points above, it will soon become apparent that many are interwoven, which means all of the above can apply to a person’s life individually or even all at once. Like I said, I am going to discuss these points in detail so I promise not to leave you hanging. Now most books written on the subject of satisfaction deal with some object of satisfaction such as customer satisfaction or patient satisfaction, or some experience, etc. This is because satisfaction is goal or object
oriented but as you will soon see, this is part of the problem.
But this book is
