Rowdy... well I loved him in the first two books.. and throughout this one as well! Avery suited him and I enjoyed her spunk and occasional sarcasm. Again Foster introduced good characters and I am looking forward to their stories!

Again, I am a huge Lori Foster fan and she doesn't disappoint with Getting Rowdy. So far, this third book in the series is my favorite. We got to see glimpses of Rowdy throughout the first two books, so by the time his story was here, I was just about frothing at the bit. Rowdy had alot of baggage, huge responsibility on his shoulders, and a bit wild, a man set in his ways and you almost start believing that maybe there is no changing him. But Avery was a perfect match for him and soothed the restlessness inside him. Sexy, sizzling, and love that previous characters still make an appearance throughout the book!

Nobody writes sizzling sex scenes like Lori Foster, and in that way, this book does not disappoint, opening with something very naughty, and yet...

I got stuck at about the 40% mark, and found myself picking up another book and reading it cover to cover, then returning to "Rowdy." Then after a couple pages, picking up another book and reading it cover to cover, before MAKING myself finish it.

Trying to put my finger on why... I liked Rowdy, and Avery. I didn't LOVE them; it felt like the "issues" keeping them apart were too easily resolved once they began talking to each other. I didn't feel like they made serious mistakes and had to pay for them. They always called their cop friends when appropriate, the cop friends were always able to arrive in time (No other demands on their time? No issues with dispatch which wanted them elsewhere?)... On paper, the stakes were high, but I didn't really FEEL it or believe it.

While Rowdy had issues going back to his childhood, and there was a nice present-day shadowing with Marcus, Avery's backstory was shallow, seeming to begin and end with the creepy ex. Nothing from her life before that seemed to carry into her current behavior, habits, etc. She had NO childhood or teen friends...? The most memorable thing about Avery was her longish red hair.

The writing is excellent, the sex is hot, the characters are likable, and as part of a series, it works fine as a stand-alone. Ends with a HEA.

Fantastic book. We first met Rowdy in Book 1 Run the Risk and he appeared again in Bare It All. He is the older brother of Pepper, who he spent his life protecting, until she married Logan Riske. He and Pepper had a rough childhood and he has never had a problem doing whatever he had to in order to keep her safe. His actions have gotten him into plenty of trouble in the past, but things are getting better. He has purchased a bar that he is running and mostly staying out of trouble. One of his best employees is Avery, a beautiful redhead that he wants to get a lot closer to. He's not used to women telling him no and that has him even more intrigued. When she starts receiving threats all his protective instincts come roaring to the surface.I loved Rowdy and have from the beginning. His way of watching out for his sister, then Alice and now Avery shows that there is a really good heart under all those muscles and frowning looks. It isn't always obvious, especially with the way he goes through women. He is constantly fighting the demons of his past, and being with a woman is about the only thing that takes his mind off his troubles. He doesn't do relationships at all and makes sure that the women know it. He really wants Avery but she isn't letting him close. I loved the way he went all alpha protector the night he drove her home and saw where she lived. It got even better when he discovered she was being harassed. He was determined to protect her whether she wanted it or not. I loved seeing his confusion and frustration when she would stand up to him. He also found himself doing things with and for her that he had never done for anyone else and it really freaks him out. In spite of his extreme confidence in himself and his abilities he doesn't react well to a visit to her parents and what he thinks she is doing. It does serve as quite a catalyst to really push them together and things get hot really fast. I really enjoyed seeing Rowdy deal with things he has never experienced before. When she starts telling him she loves him he doesn't know how to deal with it, but realizes that he is starting to care for her.Avery has been hiding out for a year, escaping from a situation that had become unbearable. She wants Rowdy but she has no intention of being just another in a long line of women. I really enjoyed seeing her hold him off for as long as she did. She is also very different than most of the women he goes after, being more restrained in her dress and actions. She's afraid when she starts getting strange phone calls, but she initially doesn't want to draw Rowdy into her problems. Once he makes it clear that he will help whether she wants it or not, she accepts his assistance. I really liked the way that she didn't take stupid chances and kept her head when bad things happened. I loved the scene behind the bar when Rowdy went after the drug guy. She really stood up to him about going to the hospital and then again when she insisted on taking care of him. I saw that as the real turning point in their relationship. It was great seeing her accept that she loved him, and also accept Rowdy for exactly who he was. She didn't try to change him or get him to admit feelings for her and has no plans to make a scene when the time comes Rowdy wants to end things. All she does is love him and tell him so frequently. The action in the book is fantastic. Rowdy is the kind of guy who doesn't back down from a fight. From the time he takes her home the first time and takes out the drunks to the final confrontation with her stalker he lays it all on the line. I also enjoyed seeing him deal with both Logan and Reece. Because of his early life, and later problems with crooked cops, he has a problem with law enforcement and having his sister married to a cop still gives him a bit of trouble. I loved some of the interactions among the three of them as they tried to keep Rowdy from doing something stupid. As Rowdy learned more about the man threatening Avery he really wanted to do some serious harm. The final confrontation was really intense with a twist I was completely surprised by.I also enjoyed the appearance of various characters. Seeing Logan, Pepper, Reece and Alice again was great, especially as they had important parts in the story and weren't just thrown in for the heck of it. The growing friendship between Pepper and Avery gave added insight into Rowdy and what has made him the man he is. The rescue of the little boy named Marcus from the druggie father who attacked Rowdy also gave us a chance to find out more about Rowdy's past, as did the way that he interacted with Marcus at Alice and Reece's house. I laughed when the female police lieutenant came into the bar and started putting the moves on Rowdy and the panicked phone call he made to Dash. I really can't wait to read his book. And finally, I loved the new guy, Cannon. He had some very interesting things to say and I really liked the things he did. I suspect that we will be seeing more of him.

4 STARSThis is book #3 in Love Undercover series by Lori Foster. So lots of old characters are back plus a lot more. This story is steamy hot. There are a lot of love scenes that I skipped over. It also had lots of drama, some action, some really sweet tender scenes. The plot is centered around the bar Getting Rowdy. Rowdy the new owner wants his bartender but she is always turning him down but he finds lots of other one night stands. Rowdy uses sex to get through tough times. The bar used to be a place where you could get drugs easy. Rowdy has been cleaning up the area. One customer who made deals with old owner wants Rowdy to make good on the deal. When Rowdy finds out the guy brought is little kid Marcus with him goes outside to talk to him.Avery gets Marcus inside. Rowdy ends up fighting the guy and a second guy comes out with big knife and cuts Rowdy's back before he gets both of them taken care of.The drug dealer had lots of drugs and guns in his car so his kid will be safe. Rowdy sees himself in Marcus and wants better for him.Reese one of the cops that he has been friended by because of his sister Pepper's marriage to Logan another detective. He gets emergency custody of Marcus. His mother was found overdosed. Reese's wife Alice and Marcus start connecting right off the bat.Pepper stays with Rowdy after he gets hurt to help take care of him. Then Pepper's past comes to be a danger to her and Rowdy wants to keep her safe with him.I like all the different characters and how they are helping each other out. I was surprised by some of the twists in the book. Can't wait to see if Dash or Cannon is the next character to get his story told.I was given this ebook to read and asked to give honest review of it by Netgalley and Harlequin.September 24th 2013 by Harlequin HQN ISBN 9780373777792

Read for Book Tour (Book Trib)Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-ThonOverall Rating: 5.00Story Rating: 5.00Character Rating: 5.00Rowdy Rating: OFF THE FREAKING CHARTS!First Thought when Finished: Getting Rowdy is the best in a series that is filled with great books!Story Thoughts: Bad guys: Check! Bad Ass leading characters (Rowdy/Avery): Check! Visits from characters that I already know and love: Check! What does this equal? A book that I love and adore! I will put this on my reread shelf (not many books go there) and visit Rowdy again in the future. The action was fantastic, the love story very organic and real, and the characters were brilliant. You don't even have to read the rest of the series to enjoy Getting Rowdy though you will enjoy the other books too. Getting Rowdy was a page turner from beginning to end!Character Thoughts: I loved bad-boy Rowdy Yates. He is that alpha male that gives off the "you can't have me for more than one night but you know that you want me" vibe. The great thing about those alphas is you know they will meet their kryptonite sooner or later. Avery was great kryptonite. She didn't play his games, did things on her own terms, and had enough stuff to deal with that she never asked more than he could give. They had explosive chemistry and off the charts sex appeal. Yep, I loved them!Final Thoughts:Can I just say that I miss Rowdy already!

I have loved Rowdy from the very moment he burst into this series and have been looking forward to reading his story from the beginning. He so needed a HEA and I think Avery was perfect for him. At times his story was sad and other times I couldn't help but shake my head at his antics. He's just so damn lovable even when he's being a jerk. Hopefully there will be more books in this series (Dash and Cannon) because I can't wait to see peaks of his life as a married man and eventually a father (you just know he'll make a kick-ass father). Strongly recommend this book, but even though it can be read as a stand alone in order to get the full effect of his awesomeness it should be read in order. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

This one was just ok for me.I like an a confident, assertive man but Rowdy pushed that line to the point of unattractiveness at times. For instance, I appreciated he made it clear he wanted her even though she resisted. I didn't the way he would be with other women in front of her. I liked Avery's character, she felt real. And I felt the pull was there between them two but parts of the suspense part of this story was over the top at times for me.Not my favorite by this author but not bad either. I received this book in exchange for an honest review for netgalley.

Foster's Rowdy is a hero to remember. The opening scene focuses on Avery discovering him with a one night stand. Not a promising beginning. Foster does redeem him, creating a multi-faceted hero complete with rough edges. Rowdy is one of the most memorable characters I have read. To me, he read like the contemporary counterpart to Lisa Kleypas' Derek Craven.

I enjoyed this story but it took me awhile to warm up to the hero and heroine. It was another commitment-phobic hero plot with usual behavior and too many secrets then the heroine got a backbone and the action picked up. Bar owner Rowdy keeps asking his waitress Avery to have sex with him.

Avery Mullins, on the run for personal reasons that might be catching up with her, is working as a bartender in Rowdy Yates new bar. Rowdy is handsome, sexy, and every bit of a bad boy. He has been hitting on her ever since he saw her but she is determined not to be the next one-night stand in Rowdy's life. Rowdy has reasons of his own to keep his relationships to one-night stands. He had a tough childhood and lives a dangerous life. He grew up taking care of his younger sister Pepper and keeping both of them out of trouble. Now Pepper has found her own love (Run the Risk) and doesn't need the same level of care. Rowdy has bought the bar but still doesn't see himself as settling down and changing his lifestyle. When Avery's trouble catches up with her, she doesn't want to just bring out Rowdy's protective streak. She wants to handle her own problems and not put him in danger. Rowdy wants to be her protector and lover - and one night is no where near long enough to be with her. I liked that both characters in this romance were strong people. Avery has gone from sheltered young woman to someone who was assertive and able to make it on her own. I also liked that she was confident enough to share her feelings with Rowdy without demanding that he reciprocate them. I also liked that both characters were vulnerable. Rowdy is exploring new territory because he has never had a relationship with a woman that lasted more than a day. It takes a while for Rowdy to realize that his desire to protect Avery and keep her safe from any danger was love.I also liked getting a chance to catch up with some of the secondary characters who had been main characters in earlier books in the Lovers Undercover series. The book also introduces new characters - especially Cannon - who need their stories told too. It looks like Dash's story is coming next but I am also really curious about Cannon's.This was a wonderful romantic suspense story. It had enough sexy romance to satisfy the most romantic and the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat.

Please excuse any rambling you may find while reading this review, my mind was all jumbled this at 12:30 last night, but I just had to get this review written down on paper! Going in, I expected to like this book, but not love it. The first two books in the series were great, but they weren't my favorite books by Lori Foster. So you can understand why it was so surprising to me that I fell in love with this book from the moment Avery walked in on Rowdy receiving a BJ in his office. Which, if you haven't read GETTING ROWDY, is how the book begins. Over the years, l've noticed Lori Foster never starts with a boring intro, or even just eases a reader into the story. Something is always going on, which is something I'm extremely grateful for. I can get distracted by other books very easily, but no way was I diverted today. I had my head stuck in the book at every available moment. I even missed a new episode of PAWN STARS for this! That is how much I loved the book. (If you didn't know, I have a serious addiction to that show. It's the history buff in me.) Rowdy is a beefcake in a sea of hungry lady fish and everyone wants a nibble! All he really wants to nibble on is Avery, but since she won't give it up (you go girl!), why not sample the other fish in the sea? The easy fish. Is it so bad that he takes these ladies up on their offer every once in awhile? Especially when Avery won't have him? Yes. Yes it is, Rowdy! Okay, so it was amusing to read about, but poor Avery has to have it all flaunted in her face. And you wonder why she won't sex with you, Rowdy. *grumbles* But... like a good LF heroine, Avery eventually gives it up. Bahaha, just kidding guys, she does makes him work for it! And when they finally hit the sheets, let me just say.... HOT DAMN. That could actually be said before they get horizontal, too. There is sexual tension everywhere in this book, and it is hawt. Sex and hot guys aside, the ending is a pleasant surprise for me. Usually I can predict an ending pretty easily. When you've been reading for such long a long time, things can become a little predictable. I had the ending all figured out, and then Ms. Foster snatched my feet right out from under me! I love that she can still leave me shocked after all the years I've been reading her books. If you like suspense and all things sexy and male, this is the book for you. I may just re-read the first two books in the series and see how much I like them now, verses before my new Rowdy addiction.Read more reviews on No Book Left Behind Book Blog

The Love Undercover series was my first experience with Lori Foster. I have had many of her books on my TBR list for a while now, but we all know how that list never seems to end! Her books were a little more mature than I was used to, but sometimes it is good to step out of your comfort zone. I didn’t fly through these books as I so often do. I savored each letter, each word, each page, and when they came to a close, I felt complete in the progression.

Getting Rowdy is the third book in this series. I had the chance to read Run the Risk, the first book in the series, a few days ago and fell in love with all the characters. Lori Foster has an interesting perspective in her storytelling in that not only do you get dual POV’s but you also get little snippets of other side character’s POV’s. Though book one stars Pepper and Logan, we get little pieces of Rowdy and even a brief mention of two of Avery. Though they were only showcased for a short time, it because evident that there was most definitely a tale in store for them.

A little side note: while these books CAN be read as standalones, I would highly recommend reading them in succession. I did not have time to read Bare It All, the second book in the series, and while I was not lost reading Getting Rowdy, there were definitely some parts I could have used a tad bit more clarification on. Again, it doesn’t ruin the story AT ALL, but I am very much a person who doesn’t normally read out of order. I will definitely be going back to read the second book soon!

“Here I am, getting more turned on by the second, and you want to slap a halo on my head.”

“A halo would never fit over your massive ego.”

One thing that I just noticed, now that I know all the characters, is that the male MC’s name is in the title. Getting Rowdy is the story of, you guessed it, Rowdy and Avery. Rowdy is the brother of Pepper, whom we met in Run the Risk. Avery is the fiery redheaded waitress who helped him out when he was in a precarious situation. From their brief beginning sparks flew! One thing you should understand about this series is that one or both of the characters, in some way shape or form, are undercover. What this results in is a whole lot of juicy, yet devastating secrets. We already know that Rowdy basically raised Pepper, but we only have her side of the story. Trust me when I tell you that we haven’t heard anything yet!

It wasn’t a wimpy little kiss. Nope. It was a hot, damp, tongue and teasing show of possession. Whew. Her insides went liquid and her anger melted away.

Avery is a strong, vibrant woman with a myriad of trust issues, with good reason. We don’t find out for a while why she has this trust issues, and even when we do, it isn’t in great detail. While I definitely connected with the character and felt all the emotions alongside her, I wish we had gotten more detail about her life before going on the run. I am a stickler for details and hate NOT knowing something. Avery and Rowdy play the cat and mouse game well, but I give her major props for not just falling into bed with him, as hard as I KNOW that must have been. She is assertive and confident, taking what she wants. These aren’t broken, helpless women. Though they have a strong man at their side they are perfectly capable of handling their own.

“When we happen-and we will-I want you to feel everything. Avery. Not be numbed by exhaustion.”

Rowdy……Rowdy Rowdy Rowdy. Never have I read a character and wanted to do nothing more than just give him a hug! This is a man who never had a chance at a childhood, saw and experienced things that no human, much less a child, should ever have to. He has always been the protector, putting everyone’s feelings and safety above his own. He’s a taker of burdens. A giver of solace. He never puts roots down in one place for too long because that is just what he has always done. The sparks between these two literally JUMP of the pages, no matter how hard they try to deny it. I found myself anticipating the moment in which I hoped they collided. I wasn’t disappointed…..

She was like a drug, the very best king. She’d turned his world upside down, but for the first time in forever, things were starting to feel right.

Honestly, I think my favorite part of the book was Marcus. Who is Marcus you ask? This is a character that will turn your heart into mush, leaving your soul and those of everyone around you, in a puddle at your feet. You will see Alice, Reese, Pepper, Logan, Avery, and especially Rowdy in a brand new light. Just when I thought I couldn’t love a character more, Marcus happened.

I give this book a solid 4.5 star rating! There is a fourth book coming up that will star Dash, Logan’s brother. I cannot wait to see where Lori takes us next!

Sexy over-protective womanizer/bad boy with a hard life in the bad part of town who has women throwing themselves at him, even knowing it’s not going to get them anything but a couple of hours of sex, can’t get the woman he craves. Rowdy had recently bought a bar and changed it to something friendlier, pushing out the drugs and prostitution. He’d been smart enough to move Avery, a waitress from the old bar into the head bartender’s position, and with her help has turned the place into a moneymaker. Unfortunately she keeps turning his advances down. Avery is trying to hide a couple of secrets and isn’t ready for anyone to know anything about her, until the trouble she’d been running from finds her. She’s also in love with Rowdy and is willing to take him even knowing there’d be no future for them.It was difficult for me at first to actually like Rowdy and Avery. Both their thoughts and actions toward the other were a turn off until the two get closer and we got to know them. The more I learned about Rowdy, the more I liked him. Avery took a little longer. Definitely a nice person, but her she comes across as somewhat of a martyr with her love for him but just waiting for him to tell her to hit the road.I don’t often read a flat-out romance anymore, so this was a nice treat. Have some tissues handy. On the whole I enjoyed the story, the romance, the characters and the situations enough that I’ve already purchased the first book in the series, Run the Risk. I want to get to know some of these characters better.
