About this ebook
"Ellen James writes with warmth, wit and style. I look forward to each new book." Debbie Macomber
Michael Turner is the man next door and he's got problems!
He's an ex–cop turned P.I., who's pretending to be a writer.
His partner, normally the most rational of women, is pretending she's pregnant.
His eleven–year–old son whom he loves isn't pretending anything, but then, the boy's barely talking to him.
His father whom he loathes (no pretence here) is back in town.
And to top it all, he's becoming dangerously attracted to the woman next door, a woman he's been paid investigate, a woman who just might be pretending that she hasn't murdered her husband.
Ellen James
Ellen James has always relished a story about true love, and she was very fortunate to find her one and only true love when she moved to New Mexico several years ago. However, inexplicably cold feet almost prevented her from walking down the aisle. She balked at her wedding date not once, but twice, causing her future mother-in-law to throw up her hands in despair. Fortunately Ellen did muster up the courage to take her vows, and has been fabulously happy ever since. With her husband, Ellen shares a passion for history and the outdoors. The two of them can usually be found poking around ghost towns, as well as camping and hiking in the gorgeous mountains of the southwestern United States. And, of course, Ellen is also busy pursuing her dream career-writing Harlequin romances.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was my first Ellen James, though I have a slew of her backlist, and I was very impressed with her writing style: very smooth, very concise and literate. Now this isn't rocket science, dear readers; this is category romance but even in this genre you have the fine writers and the mediocre ones and James definitely falls into the former. Plot revolves around the man next door (our hero) rents the house so he can watch his next door neighbor (the heroine) to find out if she murdered her husband. The plot has been used before but in the hands of a good writer, someone who writes with heart and soul, even a much-used plot can be thoroughly enjoyable and readable. The sign of a good read for me is when I start it I can't put the book down, like meeting someone for the first time and you both do the getting-to-know you dance. You don't know if you're going to like one another so you circle each other, testing the waters. Once in a while you meet someone (or in this case a good book or a new author) and you immediately click. I think Ellen James and I are going to be REALLY good friends in the future. I love this writer. Recommended for a nice, heart-warming read. Sex in this one was mild and minimal which I can like; sometimes the sex just takes over to compensate for an average plot or average writing.. Do try this author.
