How to Start Your Own Music Festival - Michael Silverman
How to Start a Music Festival
My brother and I have been performing all over North America for over 10 years, and playing in the Midwest since we were teenagers in the 1980s, and we have both developed a love of music festivals. Growing up performing at various street festivals, park festivals and amphitheater fests with names like KDHX Expo, Taste of St. Louis, Riverport Jazz Festival, Earth Day, Budweiser Brewfest, and many more, we decided to start a festival of our own right in the park where we grew up. That was five years ago, and we are now involved in nine different fests, in a variety of musical styles, encompassing jazz, rock, blues, wine, barbecue, art, fairs with rides and more. We have done indoor, outdoor, multiple stages, street events, educational music classes, food trucks, benefits and many other aspects of festival arrangement.

We naturally thought that barbecue would be great to enjoy while listening to the blues. Some things just go together that way. We run four jazz festivals, and people always request that there be wine available. Something about wine and jazz are a natural fit. As you read the following chapters, I hope that you
