    Thanks, Dad, said Melanie to her father, the new principal of South Hill High School, as she slid out of the family’s white Toyota RAV4. She turned to pull out her brown backpack, which she slung over her shoulder, and then she brushed a few stray black strands of Lucky’s dog fur from her navy blue hoodie.
