      He had ridden the Black! He had conquered this wild, unbroken stallion with kindness!

      These simple lines, written by Walter Farley in, The Black Stallion, have echoed in my mind since the day I first read them with sweaty palms and a pounding heart. I was almost crazy with the idea that anyone, even a child, could tame the wildest horse with the right knowledge and a true heart. Corny, maybe, unrealistic, definitely, but Walter Farley gave me a philosophy of kindness, patience and tenacity, which are the cornerstone of every good horse person.

      Passion for Horses is a compilation of quotes and short essays written about the ongoing love affair between people and all things horse. Simple messages to mull over and contemplate while riding, cleaning stalls, or daydreaming about the horse you will someday bring into your life.
