About this ebook
Nico Sanzio da Urbino stays busy with his Odd Squad job investigating paranormal crimes, but he's still haunted by the idea that the usurper he killed at Jet's pack meeting was familiar. As an ancient enforcer, it's always possible the werewolf was a relative of someone from Nico's past, but if he wants to make sure the local Alpha keeps his head, Nico needs to find the connection before revenge comes calling.
Running background checks as part of the upgraded security measures for his pack, Alpha Jet Gorman discovers not everyone can be accounted for in the usual manner. In fact, several of the young rogue wolves he's ordered to his pack are from human families...with no history of a bite to account for their wolfy tendencies. No wonder they were runaways. Before he can verify they pose no danger to the other werewolves, he must first discover the secret of their existence. A secret worth killing for.
Despite their differences, there is an undeniable connection between the ancient vampire and the young Alpha that seems to go beyond the blood they've exchanged—and keeps them circling around their very obvious mutual attraction. But while one man is looking for a way to move their relationship into the bedroom, the other is searching for a reason to stay true to his past.

Chapter One
Wrapping his long black coat around himself to ward off the typical early evening drizzle, Nico stepped out from the portico and into the ever-present flow of pedestrians that haunted the French Quarter at all hours of the day or night. Not that they were actually ghosts…or even preternatural beings. Not all of them, anyway. The city still consisted of more humans than non-humans, despite the rapidly increasing supernatural population of a post-Revelation New Orleans. There were those who would pay a great deal to know why so many supes were converging on the Crescent City.
As an enforcer for the so-called Odd Squad, a loose coalition of Homeland Security, the NOPD, and other better-left-unnamed organizations, Nico spent his nights hunting the unredeemable to carry out the ultimate in sentences. He spent his days dead. Or whatever one wanted to call the state of suspended animation vampires entered during daylight hours. Tonight however was one of those odd opportunities afforded him courtesy his position as a quasi-federal employee of the US government—a mandatory night off.
Despite the warm temperatures over the long Memorial Day weekend, this first night of June carried more than a hint of coolness. The sidewalk was teeming with tourists draped in blue plastic ponchos while the locals donned jackets and hats. Stretching his legs, Nico turned on Burgundy, automatically pronouncing the name with an emphasis on gun, the way the natives did.
After a few bobs and weaves, he reached full stride, with no particular destination in mind. Certainly not Fangs, the pack-owned bar that catered to the local preternatural community. It was merely a coincidence his feet headed in a direction that would bring him within mere meters of the prickly Alpha, sure to be in his office at this time of the evening. The man with whom he had twice exchanged blood, and who stubbornly refused to see there was an attraction between them
