    About The Book

    Forward

As Brother Devlin notes in this book, I had the blessing of joining his journey early when he moved into the Pennsylvania area. Much of what you read concerning those years of his adventure into the Kingdom are for me also filled with spiritually colored memories neither of us even dreamed of. Our paths continued to cross and weave as the Holy Spirit untangled our fleshly beginnings, and although starting from vastly different places we found we were being drawn into the relational setting and unity of His Kingdom, not of governmental regulations but unifying love within His personal growing family.

    Dedication

To my children, grandchildren, family, friends, to those who had the courage and love to tell me about Jesus. To those who encouraged me to write. To all who have spoken into my life over the years even you and you who didn't know it. To the Father, my Lord, my Savior, and the Holy Spirit.

    THANK YOU!

    Preface

'KingdomStuff'  is a word or phrase I have come to use over the years which was derived from a similar phrase 'Doin The Stuff' by John Wimber. The writings herein will contain or reflect in some manner an aspect of the Kingdom of God as I perceive it. I'm not saying I have the whole or correct perspective on it, just what I've come to understand or have experienced. The following contains some of my testimony, Rev.12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony.

Growing up as a young boy in the Catholic Church until around age sixteen I understood and experienced very little biblically. I went to Catholic elementary school for a few years, baptized as a child, became an altar boy, received my Holy Communion, and went to an all boys Catholic High School for two years.

Even at that I understood very little about God or His kingdom. The language used then was mostly Latin except for the sermons. My whole experience with God up until this point was basically what I had been told until the day I received my Holy Communion privileges. That day I felt something I never understood until later in life which I have come to understand as His Presence, His Spirit upon me. Since then the ups and downs of my journey have been affected by him.

Many have followed my short writings and encouraged me to write more. From my early walk with God, my desire was to be someday a living Epistle, 2Cor.3:3. Hopefully, some of these writings herein will bear witness and are my thoughts, stories, and experiences relating to this. I trust the Holy Spirit will pour himself out in some way as you read and you too will experience his Kingdom further. for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you Lu.17:21

    Introduction

For a couple of years now I have been encouraged to write. About ten years ago I entered a writing contest on a whim with my two fishing buddies at the time. To my surprise, I was selected and won the contest for that month. Although I was encouraged to write I didn't think so. Then a friend who would read some of my blog postings would call and say, you should write. I was flattered but paid little attention. About a year later this friend called to again say how I had this gift and I should write. I said thanks, I'll pray about it and left it at that. Two days later while, in a gathering, some men decided to pray for me. Men, I didn't know personally. After praying, this young man asked me if I did any writing because while praying he said he saw a desk with a candle on it. He got this impression from the Lord that He was in my writings. I began to think a little more and pray about it. This writing is a result. I didn't know what to write, but in faith just started and this is the product.

My purpose in writing is that in the sharing of my story along with the scriptures you will be inspired to look further into how the Kingdom of God and how it fits in your life. Jesus said,  seek first his kingdom Mt.6:33. To me, this is significant. If you have faith in God, believe Jesus is who he said he was, then it stands to reason one would be at the least interested to find out what he meant by his statements. He promised if we did seek first, all things would be added that we needed. Now that sounded like a pretty good deal to me when I read those words. Jesus even taught us what to say when we talked to God in our prayers, your kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven, really? Is that really possible? How does that happen? What does that look like?

Well, it took me a long time to get a handle on it, so don't feel like you're alone. When I talk to others about his kingdom, I sometimes get this funny look, maybe like the one you just made. There are many different views of his kingdom which I'll share later on.

Hopefully as you read you will be inspired by him and his kingdom too. You will relate to some of my testimony, experiences or see his kingdom in a new or different way. I pray you are blessed by his presence as you read.

    Chapter One

    How It All Started

    ––––––––

I left the Catholic church around sixteen because I got nothing further from it. Not seeing any value in it I sought out other things in life that filled my thought felt needs. There's no doubt I was on the inside still searching for answers. Having lived in a family of seven boys, being the oldest, and at the age of seventeen my parents divorced launching me into the world on my own. I discovered in school I loved sports. There was some satisfaction from the attention I received. I was a bit of a natural at it too. I can't claim it was my ability alone, I now believe it was a gift from God. I just found it easy and I excelled in sports. It gave me the instant gratification I needed at that time of my life. The downside was that God and the church were way on the back burner.

I barely graduated high school because I was only interested in sports. When it came time for senior graduation I was told I was two credits shy. I went to the guidance counselor to plead my case. I remember it as a tumultuous afternoon for me, with so much uncertainty. Eventually, the counselor was able to get me the two credits I needed from the two years I spent in an all- boys Catholic School. I was given these credits because of the religion classes I took in ninth and tenth grade. Go figure, at the time, this only seemed a coincidence to me.

So I graduated with my classmates. What was I to do next? I didn't really like school. Coming from a divorced family with seven boys, we were poor, and no hope of secondary education. Well as a result of my talent in soccer, I was named to the Suffolk County All-League Team that year. We won our division and went to the County playoffs where we lost in 1970-71. To my surprise, I was also named to the All-Suffolk-County Team, the highest honor at my position of inside forward. This was all good for my ego, but I couldn't see how this would further my life. My mother started contacting some colleges based on my soccer success, but I was turned down by the better ones because of my grades. However, I did receive a partial scholarship and went on to school that fall. God was still not on my radar, at all. I enrolled, but my heart was only in sports. I soon found myself in the midst of the drugs, rock and roll, and sex. For two years, I tried to fill the emptiness of my being with everything but God.

After two years, doing well in sports, winning all the honors again in soccer and lacrosse, I was still struggling academically. I was depressed over family life and still looking for some truth in life. Thinking why would I want to incur $1000 per year in bills, ( my portion left after scholarship), I should just quit school. I did just that and moved back home. Turns out my best friend from high school had just made the same choice and left the Merchant Marine Academy. So, we made a plan to move to New Jersey, get an apartment, jobs, and begin a new adventure in life. His buddy from the academy joined us and we had a nice bachelor pad in a duplex in Boonton, N.J. This turned out as most young whippersnappers would think, to be a pretty cool life. The party scene continued, I didn't realize my life was continuing to spiral out of control.

After about a year of this I was hitchhiking home from work because my mustang was in need of repair.  A man had picked me up. When I got into the car the first thing he asked was Have you ever asked Jesus into your heart? I was taken back. Those are not the words you expect to hear when you first get in a car when hitchhiking. I couldn't speak. It seemed like five minutes although I'm sure it was only seconds. I replied Well I haven't thought about God for like six years, Sir. I believe in God, but I don't want to know the Catholic God, I don't want to know the Baptist God. If He's real I just want to know Him. You see I always believed in God I just didn't know him. He said that was a good answer and invited me to his church. He said they had some good youth services. In my
