50 Essential Tips for the Almost Famous Author - Zack Jezek
Intro
The things you already know, but always seem to forget
––––––––
First off, these tips are not presented in any magical order, tip #7 is just as important as tip #42.
Whichever one resonates with you, should be the one you focus on the most.
Also, these tips are nothing more than suggestions and personal insights on relative topics that I have found most authors tend to neglect and/or simply forget to acknowledge (or practice).
They have, however, made a world of difference in my life and the lives of my clients. I strongly suggest that you take them as seriously as possible because I truly believe that they will help you achieve your goals as an author, speaker and entrepreneur.
I wrote and published my first book when I was only 8 years old and with the help of my family, I have been refining and perfecting
the process ever since then. Now I enjoy teaching others how to write and create their own books without a pricey and painful learning curve and how to avoid the inevitable pitfalls that we all run into once in a while.
I believe that everyone has the potential to be amazing when given the opportunity and with enough drive and ambition anyone can make it in this funny world we live in.
These tips, when you take action on them, will help you make it as an author or speaker. They teach you how to use your book as the best foot in the door
you can find. Not to mention, they will keep you on track, teach you some really cool secrets and inspire you to get out there and kick some ass!
So here is to your continued success!
promote... Promote... PROMOTE!
This is obvious right?
"Well, yeah! I promoted my book last week."
WHAT!?
Last week? It’s your job as an author to ALWAYS be promoting yourself.
Too many almost famous authors think that once you write your book, you can set it and forget it.
HELL NO.
This industry requires a lot of work to get noticed, a LOT.
My favorite saying is "Too many authors are lost in the forgotten dust pile of never to be seen titles of ebook sellers back pages" and this is because too many of them spend too much time creating the book and not enough time promoting it.
So PROMOTE IT!
––––––––
Family + Friends = Fans
One of the best ways to build a following is to start with people who are 93.2% likely to support you and your ventures (as long as you show constant signs of improvement, unlike that one uncle who keeps coming up with "fool proof" get rich quick schemes.)
Because if you can impress your disapproving relative, then you know you can impress anyone.
Your friends are going to help you out by promoting your book for you to their own friends and families.
Now you have mutual friends who are sharing your book with their friends.
Before you know it, you’ll have people asking you out to dinner and buying your stuff because a friend of Mikes, girlfriend’s, brothers, boss’s wife, told her mother about a friend who knows a famous author...
YOU!
