    INTRODUCTION

We often read God’s word too quickly, and in the process we do not give God time to make the application to our hearts of what we just read, which is an important purpose that God wanted to achieve in giving us His word in the first place! I know, I am often guilty of this myself. But there is something else involved here, at least in my own reading of God’s word. Too often we read for the sake of reading and not really for meeting with God, that is, of truly allowing Him to speak to our hearts. It has been said that prayer is our opportunity to speak to God, while the reading of God’s word is God’s opportunity to speak to us! While there is some measure of truth in this, it is not entirely true, in that God very much does speak to us while we are in prayer also, yet it does roughly give us a picture of what does take place.

This book then is the result of the times the author did spend quality time with God in His word, which means that God had the time to give His servant an application of His word that had been just read. It is a lot like a young child putting shoes on for the first time. The child is so much in a hurry to get walking with those new shoes that the fine detail of first tying up the laces on the shoes is missed, which has a consequence. The laces are part of the shoes needed for walking, being there for a purpose, which is to enable the shoes to function properly on one’s feet. When we rush through our reading, not allowing God time to speak to us, such as to make an application of His word to our daily life, then we are more or less just passing through, rather than having come for a visit!

If the Bible were a work that human beings produced, then anyone would be free to do with it as one pleases, in terms of reading it to get the author’s message, or simply ignoring it. But when it comes to the word of God, we cannot do that. God ensured that His word was written down exactly as He wanted it, with no less or more words than required to get His message across. So when we read God’s word, in which He makes Himself known to us and gives us instructions on how to live while on earth, it is important for us to grasp all that God has said. Here is what one believer from the past found in this regard, Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105).

But God did not only give us His word that we might come to know Him and to guide us through this life, but He also intended that it be our spiritual food for daily intake. Just as we generally have three meals a day to nourish our physical bodies, God also wants us to have a daily intake of His word so as to feed our human spirit (Matthew 4:4), which is where God The Father indwells us through His Son by His Holy Spirit. What this means then is that God’s word is spiritual. It is to be expected that since God is a spiritual Being (John 4:24), then His words to us are spiritual words (Romans 7:14). That is one reason God gives one who comes to personally know Him The Holy Spirit, so that one can understand God’s word. Here is what God says in this regard, Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God (1 Corinthians 2:12).

What will be found in reading the book is that it is quite personal, same as it will be personal to the reader when God applies His word to your own life situations. What this illustrates is that God is a personal God, Who wants to be directly and minutely involved in every aspect of our lives. After all, we are His children! What mother after having giving birth abandons her child to go about life without her involvement. She knows that the child simply cannot live without her. Well, the reality here is that we simply cannot live without God’s involvement in our lives either. The tragedy is that so many think they can, with disastrous results!

What should also be mentioned before closing this Introduction is that after completing 21 years of formal education and then spending almost 28 years working in Project Engineering in the Corporate offices of a large utility, God called His servant as a non-denominational evangelist in early 1999, then sent him out over 3000 miles, away from family and friends, to the place of service God assigned, and where His servant has been and is still serving Him as evangelist, counselor, author, editor, and publisher. The author is a widower with three adopted children, now married.

A website has been established for the purpose of interacting with readers, which can be found at:

    http://www.pilgrimpathwaypublications.com

God also led His servant to establish another website specifically for gospel ministry, since the author is an evangelist. That website can be found at:

    http://www.servantofmosthigh.com

And now my prayer is that God will richly bless you as you read this book, and that He will greatly minister to your every need in your life, as only God can! To Him be all praise, honor, and glory, with thanksgiving!

Each word in God’s word is like a link in a chain, it holds the whole together!

    CHAPTER ONE

/ Some practical applications of the so-called golden rule, as found at Luke 6:31, Treat others the same way you want them to treat you.

One good way to view practical applications is as where the rubber meets the road, since what is involved is a child of God living in accordance with God’s word in daily living, so that one's walk matches one's talk. And one of the key truths to ever remember, in terms of obeying what God tells us in His precious word is that we of ourselves cannot carry out the so-called golden rule, found at Luke 6:31, and also at Matthew 7:12. For what is involved here is living in accordance with the word of God, which is spiritual, and this is impossible for us apart from the grace and power of God, since we of ourselves are anything but spiritual. That is why we need the spiritual enablement which God gives us by means of His Spirit indwelling in our spirit.

In now considering some practical applications of the golden rule of Luke 6:31, the author would like to point out that he has refused to give away or sell to believers
