About this ebook

With all the agents of Bad Boys, Inc released from their contract with the government, Wolfe thought that he’d be able to focus on his marriage to Victoria and relaxing at the nature reserve. But when a pack of wolf shifters literally show up on their doorstep, he finds he has a whole new set of responsibilities. They were his family, his kin, and now he was their Alpha. He had to teach them a new way to live and still deal with home commitments. With females making Victoria uncomfortable in her own home, his reassurance seemed to fall on deaf ears. Wolfe felt like he was fighting a losing battle. If he didn’t find a way to get it all resolved soon, would he give up his role as pack leader? Or would this new element tear him and Vicki apart?

Wolfe's Kin - Dahlia Rose

Chapter One

Wolfe sat behind his desk and looked over the files. With each closed personnel he wrote deactivated on the cover and stored it in a box. Bad Boys Inc. was officially over, and now he had time on his hands, more time than he knew what to do with.  He thought of his wife, Victoria, and their animal reserve. He could spend time with her and roam the acres of wilderness they protected in his wolf form.  He could finish the expansion on their home to prepare for possible children they planned to have. Wolfe smiled at the thought. Tonight they’d celebrate with a bottle of Chablis and a roaring fire. The holiday season was upon them, and he knew soon the snow would be falling in upstate New York.  This year he’d cut a tree from the preserve for the house, and he could actually help Victoria decorate it.

You look happy, boss.

The comment came from the corner, and he frowned and sniffed the air.  If he had been paying attention he would’ve noticed that Connor was in the room.

I hate when you do that, Wolfe muttered. Put some clothes on and then sit in a chair.

Wolfe had taken to leaving jeans and T-shirts in a pile on a chair in the corner. Also at his house by the door, in the car, well, everywhere when it came to their resident invisible man.

So that’s the last of it, huh?

Wolfe watched as Connor’s body appeared in the clothes he now wore.

The last of it, and this office officially belongs to Uncle Sam again when I step out the door, he answered.

Connor grinned. Where is my file?

In there as well, you’re free to go do as you please, Wolfe said, and after a brief silence asked a question. He dreaded hearing the answer. He’d grown to see Connor as a close friend and would be sorry to see him go. What are your plans?

I was thinking Florida and the beach, or maybe Arizona for that dry heat, Connor replied and looked up to met Wolfe’s eyes. Then I thought nah, what would Wolfe and Vicki do without me, so I decided to stay around.

Really, without an invitation? Wolfe snorted.

Didn’t think I needed one, Connor answered.

You don’t, but you know your contract is up, I can’t make you stay, Wolfe pointed out.

Connor nodded. Yeah, but we’ve been past the contract for years now, and well, let’s not get emotional or anything, but I see you and Vicki as friends, family, and all that mushy stuff.

Wolfe held out his hand. We feel the same about you, our home is your home.

Yeah, I know, but I want to build my own place on the reserve, Connor said and shook his hand. You guys are great and the food is to die for, but a man needs his own space.

That he does. How about I help you with the build and you help me with our expansion? Wolfe offered.

Connor grinned. It’s a deal. So Wolfe, what will you do without being at the beck and call of the government?

Wolfe stood and placed the cover on the last box he’d packed. Be at the beck and call of my wife.

Good man. Connor tapped the arms of his chair and stood as well. Let me help you load this stuff up.

It would’ve been done way before now if you’d helped instead of watching me from the corner, Wolfe answered.

I came in when the door was open and you weren’t at the desk. You were almost done anyway. Conner stacked one box on top of the other. Let’s go, boss.

I’m not your boss anymore. Wolfe took two more boxes and followed him out the door.

Yeah, but it stuck.

Wolfe looked back into the office when he made the final trip for the last box. He expected to feel remorse at the end of this journey, but he’d gained so much more in the years of running the team of bad boys who went above and beyond to save others in danger.  They’d found new lives without living looking over their shoulders expecting the law to catch up. Some had gotten married, and others found a new path in life. There wasn’t remorse, but a sense of freedom to pursue his life and contentment that they’d helped so many others.  He turned off the light and the room was dark when he closed the door, essentially putting an end to the team he’d created and run. Bad Boys Inc. would now be buried in the government archives as only files, no one really knowing what they did except him and the men who were a part of it.

* * * *

Connor had ridden his bike, so when they made it back to the reserve Connor rode past the house to the small guest cabin they’d built. Wolfe made sure the main gates to the reserve were closed before he drove his large SUV up to the house. Christmas decorating has begun. He shook his head in amusement. It seemed Victoria started earlier each year. It wasn’t even Thanksgiving yet and the lighted garlands were hung by the windows and doors. The outdoor Christmas tree was on the outside in the corner of the patio.  The lights twinkled merrily and it gave him a sense of homecoming, even more so than usual. He loved his wife and everything about their lives, and it was good to be home. He’d worry about the boxes tomorrow. At that point he wanted to get inside and kiss Victoria senseless. Maybe get frisky under the tree.

He stepped inside and smelled cinnamon and apple spice from her favorite potpourri. The large glass candleholders were filled with it, as well as red and green candles and beads, giving it a holiday accent. The tree wasn’t up yet, but almost everything else was in the ranch style house.  Lights twinkled and everything had that shimmery season-to-be-jolly appearance. Victoria came out of the kitchen, and for a moment Wolfe looked at the woman he loved. Her dark hair was in soft curls that dropped to her shoulders over the light blue sweater she wore. Her brown,
