    Prologue

The light coming in from the window caused him to wake. With a grumble at the sleeping woman next to him for forgetting to close the shutters, he swung his legs out of bed. The crisp, late spring air caused a shiver as he crossed the room to bring the darkness he needed. Reaching for the wooden window coverings, he paused and looked out at the view of the lake lit by the dawn; mist glowed as the sun rose between the distant peaks, and the stillness of the water reflected a perfect mirror image of the lightening sky above. For a moment the world seemed to have become inverted, and he felt a wave of giddiness that caused him to grip the shutters more tightly. Growling louder, he shook his head to clear the feeling. His intake of vodka had decreased dramatically since she became a regular visitor, and he could feel he was slowly returning to better health. Last night, however, he had over-indulged.

She had been teasing him again, which was her favourite trick when in the mood for sex, and over the course of the evening they had both drank a lot of wine. When the ache in his groin couldn't be denied any longer, he had reached for her, and things became a little blurred after that.

They had started to make love gently, passionately, but at some point she had rolled onto her stomach and lifted her hips up in offering. She had winked at him over her shoulder, her smile wide as she wiggled her ass in a provocative manner.

Come on then, Mr. Englishman, show me how you can make a young girl beg for more.

Something had turned inside his chest, and he remembered the flicker of fear across her face as he had growled and grabbed her hips.

He took her hard and fast, her giggled Easy, tiger! soon being replaced by squeals and attempts to push him away. It was the glint of tears on her cheeks that had made him stop suddenly and sit back on his haunches. She had scrambled across the rug to the relative safety of the couch, and looked at him with wide, frightened eyes.

For the love of god, Gabriel, what the hell were you trying to do? That wasn't nice, that was brutal!

He ran a hand over his sweat-streaked face, his breathing laboured as he tried to get his brain to comprehend what had just happened. He could feel the dark, hungry rage oozing from him to be replaced with resigned acknowledgement.

The next hour was spent in soothing her before they went wearily to bed; he had fallen asleep very quickly.

As he stood looking out over the lake, he could feel his cock harden at the memory and he sighed deeply. It was still inside him. After all this time it was still lurking, waiting for its chance, and now she had attracted its attention.

He returned to the bed, pulling the covers tightly around himself as he waited for sleep to claim him again.

Elsa's amusement at nearly being hit by the chisel diffused the situation quickly, and he shook his head as he smiled an apology.

"You know how temperamental we craftsmen can be. When
