About this ebook

1931 finds Merlin Richards working for an architectural practice in Chicago and trying to develop a friendship with the lovely Sally Fiske. When he is given the task of designing a house in Oak Park for the wealthy meat baron, Hobart St.John, he is so overjoyed that he fails to ask vital questions about the commission.

Why did the assignment go to the most junior member of the firm? How did the prime site become conveniently available at exactly the right time? Why is Donald Kruger, his client’s henchman, keeping such a close eye on Merlin? What is the relationship between Hobart St John and Clare Brovik, his gorgeous assistant? Is there anyone he can actually trust?

When Merlin and Clare drive out to the site to inspect progress, they find a man hanging from a beam in the cellar. Kruger tries to explain it away as suicide and, to Merlin’s fury, the police go along with the lie and try to hush everything up. They reckon without Merlin’s tenacity. Even though he is attacked and has a gun held on him, he’s determined to solve the crime. Then he’s seduced by Clare Brovik and has a whole new set of problems to contend with.
