About this ebook

"I’m more myself right now that I have ever been before. I’m doing the exact right thing, with the exact right girl."

Lindy takes a job at Camp Wananokee to get away from her boyfriend for awhile. Before long she’s swept up in the magic of camp, and of the charismatic Arabella.

But will that one kiss in the barn lead to anything, or was the tall blonde just playing with her?

The place was beautiful, I had to admit. Camp Wananokee, nestled in a pine forest in New Hampshire, beside a glittering lake, out in the middle of nowhere. Three hundred girls, six in my cabin—I was a counselor that summer, and unlike so many of the girls (both campers and counselors) I had never been to Wananokee before.

I was a new girl, and all the traditions and songs and activities and even just where anything was—it was all unknown to me. It was weird. Like I was suddenly thrust into a family and didn’t know anybody, but everyone else was super close and had a million in-jokes.

There were other reasons I wasn’t feeling so hot. I had taken the job mostly to get out of town for the summer because my boyfriend was behaving like a total ass, and it seemed like a smart idea to just get away for awhile.

My first day was overwhelming. Everywhere girls were squealing with excitement to see old friends, it seemed like everyone was hugging and screaming and laughing together. I stood around with a fake smile on my face, telling myself that before too long I’d have friends too. And in the meantime I breathed in the bracing smell of pines and clean air, and looked forward to leading some hiking trips in the mountains.

I climbed into my narrow single bed that night so tired from standing around trying to look like I was part of things. Luckily my girls were tired too and settled down easily. I heard an owl hooting, and the slap of water when a fish jumped in the lake, and fell deep asleep.

The next morning we were up at 6:30, a quick cleanup in the cabin
