BASIC FORMS IN HULLS
The basic forms for drawing boat hulls are an elongated figure 8 and an oval. The dotted lines indicate the figure 8 and the oval in the drawings.
Practice looking for the long lines that will give you the basic forms. This principle applies not only to boats but to all subjects, whether you are drawing figures, animals, trees, bridges, houses, etc.
The oval form is more noticeable in small boats, such as prams and dinghies. Do not worry about details until you have put down the most important lines. The details will fit into place like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle after your basic lines are organized.
