About this ebook

The mutant pivoted toward her – he could clearly hear her words, but he did not appear to understand them.

“Lea,” she said, tapping her chest with her free left hand.

Jax watched the female trying to communicate with him.  While he would have to take her back to Earth, neither of them was going anywhere soon.  He was going to have to live with her in this tiny cabin for – well, for who knew how long.

Lea had heard many stories of how the mutants humiliate and abuse the girls they capture.  And now, after being abducted herself, she helplessly awaits her fate.  Jax’s efforts to save his fellow mutants and their female captives have resulted in his own spacecraft’s damage, and now he and Lea are rocketing out of control.  Determined to save the life of the female he captured, Jax searches for a solution.

Determine to survive, the two stranded space traveler overcome their fear of each other, and find that their journey home leads them to an entirely different state of being.

    Prologue

The Great God of the Sun, Tamanuiterā, was awoken by his wife Ārohirohi.  As her husband arose from his slumber, his light cast her shadow upon the Earth.  Where Ārohirohi ‘s reflection cast upon the water,  the first woman Mārikoriko was created.  Mārikoriko found the first man Tiki, and she seduced him.

That night, Ārohirohi watched as the humans shivered in the cold, fearsome darkness of the night upon the Earth.

When her husband awoke the following day, she pleaded, Send some of your fire down to the Earth so the humankind can hold your warmth and light while you sleep.

Tamanuiterā gave the fire to his son Auahitūroa.  Take this to benefit the humankind. Auahitūroa took the form of a comet as he rained fire down upon the Earth.

There on Earth, Auahitūroa married Mahuika, the younger sister of Hine-nui-te-pō, Goddess of Death.  Together they begat five sons and these became the five fingers of the human hand.  The first, Takonui, would be the thumb who would give humankind the use of tools.

    Chapter One - Earth

Gold Wing ...ten minutes...sound off, the wing commander’s deliberate cadence formed directly into the verbal cortex of Jax’s brain.  The commander’s calming expression preceded the tense voices from the pilots of the six spaceships comprising the formation identified as Gold Wing, Gold One...Gold Two...

Gold Three, Jax signified his readiness, although his response sounded as if someone else had said the words.  The remaining three ships counted off, and then there was silence.

Gold Wing comprised only one of 18 groups of spacecraft in the assault force.  The three Motherships in the force each deployed six wings.  Gold Wing’s six spacecraft consisted of four Scout/Interceptors class spaceships and two Transports ships.  Jax loved piloting the small, high powered Scout/Interceptors - more commonly known as SI’s.  The nimble craft’s use consisted primarily of short range reconnaissance missions, but it also frequently protected larger more vulnerable spacecraft.  The specific ship Jax piloted today was identified as SI-106 and his specific task in this assault was to protect the two Transports and their valuable cargo.

The commander rode in the Transport identified as Gold Five.

Jax visually scanned his ship’s display panel, and then he closed his eyes and allowed the deployment status to appear directly into his visual cortex.  Most of the ship operations, and all of the assault deployment functions, were handled by his brain scanner.  Messages, images and commands passed directly in and out of his brain, leaving his eyes and ears to focus on his direct surroundings, and his hands free for his weapons.  The simulated voice created by his brain scanner attempted to sound like his real voice, but it failed.

Fortunately Jax’s survey indicated that all of the ship’s systems were optimal. Jax had been required to complete this examination before he responded to the commander’s status request, but he had been certain that the ship maintained its perfect working order.

This was Jax fourth assault sortie, his second piloting an SI.  For his next mission, he would be the commander.

Gold Wing’s target for this assault was an outdoor recreational facility.  The other three SI’s would directly protect the two transports landing on the north side of the facility while Jax guarded the south side alone.  Being alone was not all that dangerous as the response time of the planetary defenders was well known to be 20 minutes.  The mission would be in and out in 15 minutes.

Gold Wing’s specific assault site lie smack dab in the middle of the area known as North America, an urban center called Kansas City.  The other wings from Jax’s Mothership would attack other facilities spread over thousands of square kilometers.  Deployments from the other two Motherships would land at sites across the daylight half of the planet.  By now, the planetary defenders have seen the approaching Motherships on their scopes. Therefore, they knew that the assault was commencing.  However, they would have no idea of the exact locations of the diverse landings.

This surprise remained an essential part of the Miners’ success plan.

Like all of the men in Gold Wing, Jax had received special training for this specific site.  This recreational site surrounded an artificial pond where the Earthmen derived pleasure immersing themselves in water.  As they did this, the females were scantily clad or even completely nude.  Of the men in Gold Wing, only the commander had ever actually seen a nude female before, and the sight of one had been known to cause significant psychological disruption – slowing or even halting all cognitive functions.  Since Jax’s previous experience level earned him the responsibility of the flanking defensive position – alone on the south side – he would not likely see any females clothed or nude.  Nonetheless, he had been with the team when they viewed the images intended to desensitize them to the sight of bare female breasts, bottoms and pubic regions.  Jax found the images to be very disruptive, and it had taken several days for their effects to wear off.

Jax had not reported to the psychologist that he still had dreams of the images.

About half of the 18 wings in the assault would acquire various organic and manufactured items that were unavailable elsewhere in the Solar System.  Gold Wing, in concert with the remaining wings, would capture Earth females, which were also not available elsewhere in the Solar System.

Jax’s brain scanner alerted him to the 30 second mark.  Jax released his pilot seat’s restrains and did an acrobatic somersault in the weightless cabin to land in front of the ship’s hatch.  Jax gave the mental command to activate his life-suit, and then he held motionless while the polymer chains grew around him to form a protective cocoon contoured to the shape of his body.  In addition to the life-suit’s protective function, it would also counteract the strong gravity of Earth and give Jax superhuman powers.  With nary more than a thought command to his brain scanner, Jax would be able to leap small buildings with a single bound and run three times faster than any Earthman.  In a similar manner, a helmet grew from his collar to cover and protect his face.  Finally, Jax attached his weapons and the webbed landing restraints to the suit.

10...9...8... the wing commander counted down and when he reached zero, not all that much happened.  The ships of Gold Wing gently detached from the Mothership’s docking collars and slowly floated free.

After receiving the detached status from his brain scanner, Jax gave his ship a mental command to initiate its automatic landing sequence.
