About this ebook

This beguiling tale has everything: runaway orphans, kings, knights, an evil witch, and a lovable, table-high Snerg named Gorbo who leads children from one fantastic adventure to another. Tolkien called this forgotten classic a "sourcebook" for The Hobbit — and it's a must for any Rings fan. 51 black-and-white illustrations.

Author

E. A. Wyke-Smith

Edward Augustine Wyke-Smith (1871–1935) was an English writer. An engineer and adventurer, his many exploits included working as a cowboy, managing mines across the world, and building a pontoon bridge across the Suez canal during World War I. In the 1920s, he began writing children's fantasy stories, at first largely for his own children and then later for wider audiences, including adults. He is best known for his novel The Marvellous Land of Snergs.

    A fun romp.

Of interest mainly because it was a source of inspiration to Tolkien prior to writing "The Hobbit." Fun to discover the seeds that came to full bloom in Tolkien's work.
