1. The Characteristics of a West Highland White Terrier Puppy and Dog
The West Highland White Terrier, also known as the Westie, or cute Westie, is small and very sturdy as a dog, so don’t be misguided by its size. The body and the head on the West Highland White Terrier is in good proportion, and it looks round if you look at the dog from above.
The nose is black and tapered near the mouth and the dog has very sharp razor teeth. The eyes on the dog are dark and hazel to brown in color, which are wide and set away from one another. Erect ears are the cutest feature on the West Highland White Terrier, which you can never miss. They have short legs and a short tail as well, which is thick at the base and tapers as well. The West Highland White Terrier has a double coat, the outer coat is hard and the undercoat is soft, it comes in cream or white colors.
The West Highland White Terrier is hardy and game loving, which means training them would be easy as pie almost. They love people and are very friendly, especially with kids at home and they make good travel friends as well. They are full of life and socialize well with other dogs, and very rarely would they fight with them.
As a West Highland White Terrier owner you have to show them who the pack leader at home is, or else they would want to rule your home. They love to play with cats and love to chase them as well, but again if they grow up with cats around, they become the best of friends. In short, the West Highland White Terrier is spirited, robust and a best friend to have around, to love and enjoy.
They love company and make a good guardian when you aren’t around, so don’t fall for their little sizes. They often would bark and dig, which is a sign they want to play. Don’t allow them to be the leader at any given point of time or they would get aggressive. If they aren’t kept under control, they could chew on furniture at home or bite people as well. The West Highland White Terrier is known to be a nice dog, but you have to be patient and firm while training them, show them you confidence in them and be a leader when around them, to avoid behavioral issues later.
The West Highland White Terrier can suffer from chronic hernias, Legg-Perthes disease, jawbone issues and even skin issues too. If you have an apartment, or live in the town or the countryside, the West Highland White Terrier will live and do well. They can be good inside as well as outdoors, so nothing to worry about there. However, ensure the West Highland White Terrier has his daily walks and exercises or they tend to get destructive.
All in all the West Highland White Terrier is one of the cutest and the best friend you could have for your family. They are loyal and love to prove that to you.
2. What You Should Know About Puppy Teeth
There is no doubt about it; puppies are going to chew on things! Dogs will have 28 baby teeth, and 42 permanent teeth. When a puppy is roughly, 2 to 3 weeks old, their baby teeth start to come in. All their baby teeth should be in place by roughly 8 weeks of age.
The puppy’s new teeth are very tiny and sharp, and will hurt your fingers when they get a hold of them. Most mothers will start to wean their babies at 5 to 6 weeks old.
Your puppies baby teeth will start to come out around 8 to 12 weeks of age. By roughly 8 months old, your dog’s permanent teeth should all be in. You should make sure that all baby teeth are out, so that a tooth is not left in, and another one comes in and crowds the space, and also gives your dog pain. You would need to visit the vet if you see this happening.
Your puppy is going to want to chew on something, just like a real baby, their teeth are coming
