    In sixteen-year-old Skylar Christensen's America, Negative is good. Positive is bad. In fact, being Negative is the only way to survive. One half to two thirds of the entire world population have been wiped out in the blood plagues following the bird flu pandemic. Only Negatives, people with negative blood types, are immune.
    America needs Negatives for the military and the government, because they don't die. At least from the flu. That's not the only reason. The bird flu mutation that turns its victim's blood to toxic poison leaves Negatives – young and old – with enhanced senses, improved muscular development, and too often, something far more sinister. Something unexplainable by science.
    Skylar, like every other Negatives her age, undergoes military training after school. Patrolling nightly for Hemogoblin blood gangs, profiteers, and Victims Army guerrillas. Life isn't so bad. After her mandatory ten-year government service, Skylar will be free to pursue her own ambitions. She has a future.
    Hugo St. James changes that. Changes everything. Clever, smart, handsome, English aristocrat, Hugo. A positive blood type who probably won't survive the coming winter. A senior at her high school and suddenly very interested in her – for all the wrong reasons.
    With Hugo comes so many firsts: first crush, first kiss, first love, first murder, first charge of high treason. Hugo throws Skylar's life into a firestorm of conflicting loyalties and danger as he forces her into the traitorous world of illegal blood dealers, international conspiracies, and government-bred genetic mutations.

Wanting to belong and wanting to be left alone all jumbled together in a mix that never seems to make sense.Mythology and the supernatural fuel my interest in the fiction I write and what I read. Japan in particular has a vast history of Yokai -- supernatural creatures -- that is still very much alive in the culture. So many anime and manga stories and the movies, games and books they inspire are fueled by this hidden world. I've been traveling around the Japanese countryside in my free time this year, exploring ghost and demon lore and writing about it in my blog, Haunted Japan. It's become a rich source of inspiration for several novels I'm developing now.Working is not really work since I am writing all the time and that is what I want to do more than anything. Life is best enjoyed being with my kids who are killer smart and funny, or hanging out watching my friend K drink Chocolate Martinis, C play Boy Drama Bingo, J laughing so loudly heads turn, and H flirting like mad from behind her Dolce and Gabbana dark glasses!I love traveling, champagne, hanging out with my kids, espresso at sidewalk cafes, people watching, really fast express trains, and laughing like crazy – though not always in that order.
