About this ebook
Pulled from his village in the imperial army's wake, Idzi is the latest squire to serve the Emperor’s Fist – Marn Gadanzer. The job is hardly glamorous, though, and cleaning blood-spattered armor every day is not what Idzi had in mind when his proud parents sent him off to serve a highborn lord. Idzi soon learns the real value of life as his friend is killed by Marn over a moment of clumsiness. There’s a way to settle the score, but it involves a vial of enchanted oil and the mysterious Lady Senka. It’s a dirty job, but he’s the only one who can do it.

The Lowly Savior
Well you took your time, didn't you?
The boy standing before him had thick arms, messy brown hair, and a weak chin covered over with patches of brown fuzz. He stood in a low canvas tent with makeshift tables of roughly-hewn timbers lining the interior. Rags, bowls of liquid, and an assortment of hammers and blunt-nosed scrapers occupied the crude table-tops. A couple low wooden stools sat on the trampled grass in the middle.
I—they never told me where to go,
Idzi responded as he took the small area in at a glance.
That's ‘cause everyone's supposed to know where Marn Gadanzer's tents are. What, are you new here? Took you from one of the villages, did they?
He waved a hand dismissively. Never mind. What do I call you, then?
Idzi.
Idzi? Funny name. Matches your funny face, I guess,
the boy chuckled to himself. I'm Lodek.
Well met,
Idzi inclined his head.
Yeah, yeah.
Lodek spread his arms wide and turned in a circle. Welcome to the life of an army squire.
Idzi moved up to one of the tables and started looking over the assortment of objects resting on its surface. I always wanted to be a squire,
he said excitedly.
Careful, boy, you're to be an army squire, like me. A real squire doesn't do what we do. That job belongs to Andris, and I'd stay clear of him if I were you. Nasty temper he's got, just like our Lord.
Marn Gadanzer?
"That's right. And you'd best
