    Chapter One

...and I’ve signed you up for ballroom dancing lessons, said the pretty, petite blonde.

"You what? Jeez, Carrie!" Jared Whitman gaped at his sister.

You heard me. Carrie flopped on to her sofa and grinned up at her big brother. "Since Daddy’s gone, you’ll be giving me away. And that includes the father/daughter dance. And dancing with Mom, like a good son."

Ooo! Yippee! Carrie jumped up from the sofa and clapped her hands together. She leapt across the space between them, landing in his lap and wrapping her arms around his neck. Thank you, Jar! You’re the best brother ever!

Jared chuckled and hugged her back. Man, but you are going to owe me big time.

She sat back in his arms and laughed, tousling his longish sandy blonde hair. You think?

He laughed. She was right. He’d never call in the favor. So tell me about this class you’ve wrangled me into.

Carrie hopped up off his knee, picked up a flyer from the coffee table and handed it to him. She flopped back down on the
