About this ebook

For years, a young man joined covens to investigate and practice Wicca. He puzzled over two questions and wrote a book about his answers. That book encouraged people, for the first time ever, to learn and follow Wicca on their own, changing Wicca into the fastest growing faith on the planet. That book was Wicca, A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner. That man was Scott Cunningham.

Who was he? What drove him as a writer and in his personal and spiritual life? Donald Michael Kraig, Scott’s roommate for six years, reveals the real Scott in this new look at everything Cunningham.

Discover how Scott became fascinated by herbal magic and discovered Wicca. See how his approach to work, life, and magic infuse in his writing. Read previously unpublished personal episodes in his life.

Scott became fascinated with Hawaii and travelled there frequently. Why? What drew him there repeatedly?

Read the truth about the man who changed Wicca forever and learn his magical secrets. What were his passions in life? What were the two questions he asked? Find out when you read, The Magical Life of Scott Cunningham!

    Acknowledgments

I would like to gratefully thank Marilee Bigelow for her friendship and editorial comments. Marilee was one of Scott’s best friends, often sharing her recipes with him as well as accompanying him on several adventures to Hawaii. I have no doubt that her friendship helped Scott become a better person. I know her friendship has done that for me.

Enormous thanks also go to Holly Allender Kraig for her excellent editorial suggestions.

Another thanks goes to Bill Krause for his guidance and for backing this project. His positive attitude about my work was responsible for this book. I am very pleased with the result, and it’s due to Bill’s encouragement.

And finally, I have to acknowledge Scott Cunningham. His life touched so many of us, his magic changed the world, and his friendship changed my life forever.

    Introduction: Scott and Me

    It began with rain.

I had been living north of San Diego in the beach town of Encinitas on a street called Vulcan. One morning I was awakened early. The landlord decided to resurface the flat roof by hiring some locals to replace the roof’s tarpaper and gravel. It was a noisy, messy activity, and they didn’t clean up afterward.
