About this ebook

Skeletal remains rotting behind cellar walls, temple priests removing brains with iron hooks, phantom locomotives roaring across midnight plains—Brian Righi isn't making this stuff up. The ghost stories he finds in history are far more chilling than any Hollywood horror scene.

Join the seasoned paranormal investigator on a tour through mankind's millennium-old obsession with death and the afterlife. Ghosts, Apparitions and Poltergeists surveys 4,000 years of hauntings and ghost huntings—from the embalming rituals of ancient Egypt to the Ouija boards and séances of nineteenth century Spiritualism—highlighting a few outlandish tales and colorful characters along the way.

Once you've learned the history, launch a paranormal investigation of your own with Righi's guide to modern ghost hunting, full of detailed advice culled from his seven years of experience in the field.

A very short, easy to read book about all things ghostly. That was the problem for me. Too short a book trying to talk about too many different things. I don't think there is anything here that hasn't been done in a Discovery Channel or History Channel program, so if this subject is one you have a real interest in, you will likely be disappointed, since you probably already know everything that's in here. On the other hand, I really don't have more than a passing interest, so there was new stuff in here for me. Trouble is, I don't really care about it. The only sort of interesting chapter (more for its novelty than its content) was on how to conduct a ghost hunt of your own. If you just can't pass it up, then at least get it from the library and save your money for something else more substantial.

This book doesn't seem to be very popular with reviewers but I really enjoyed it. While there seems to be more of a factual history in the first half, the second half still focuses on history but with stories and here-say rather than specific dates and figures. If you enjoy reading "true" ghost stories, this will not seem that different to you and you will not be disappointed. However, if you want something filled with specific dates textbook-style, this is probably not going to be what you're looking for. It's not the author's fault you set your expectations for something different than what was delivered.
