Dale has worked as a failed shoemaker, reluctant dairy farmer, and ruthless ice cream man. For several years he monitored the nuclear test ban treaty, making sure those pesky commies didn't blow up the planet. (They didn't.) When he isn't writing, Dale advises software teams and leaders about how to play nice together. Colleagues in Dale's industry once created a special award for him for being reasonable. Kippy was screaming no more than ten feet away, but the dim funhouse lights had gone out, and me and Davy couldn’t see him in the dark. Davy jerked backward right in front of me and I bumped into him and he giggled. The air inside the funhouse was as hot as the Sacramento summer, and damp and sour and disgusting. It smelled like the locker room in the gym at school, like old sweat socks dipped in old puke.
Something tickled my neck and I jumped and screamed and Davy shrieked with laughter. I slapped at the thing on my neck. Just a piece of string dangling off the dark cloth strips that hung from the ceiling.
Kippy screamed again. Mark! Davy! It’s got me, you guys! Love of Jesus you guys, help me!
