Di was gracious, charming, musically talented with a wonderful sense of humor, and deeply spiritual. Devoted to family, she was a true seeker who practiced wisdom, compassion and love throughout her life. She left us on a cold winter’s day in 1993, much too soon. We were close friends in college who lived on separate coasts after that. But whenever I traveled east, Di and I would reunite to share thoughts, among them on metaphysical topics. A religion major and student of Richard Reinhold Niebuhr in college, Di was dedicated to the pursuit of truth and the meaning of life. Despite not having been in the Planes of Heaven classes, she was keenly interested in the teaching and always wanted to know more about it. Understanding as she did For in my Father’s house are many mansions, it’s safe to say that Di’s mansion in heaven is an especially beautiful one, befitting the beautiful person so many of us knew and loved.

The Afterlife in the Here and Now: The 5th and 6th Planes of Heaven is the fourth book in the Planes of Heaven series. All books in the series are based on my own and others’ experiences in a group of several dozen seekers who, for decades, met Friday evenings in Pasadena, California, under the guidance of mentor, master teacher and Dead Sea Scrolls translator Mary Dies Weddell, whose extensive knowledge of ancient languages, esoteric truth and inspired teachings influenced thousands in America and abroad.

For readers unfamiliar with the three previous books in the Planes series, their titles are: Planes of the Heavenworld; Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Heaven But Didn’t Know Where to Ask; and The Kingdom of Heaven and 4th Dimensional Consciousness. These three books take the reader up to and through the 4th Plane of Heaven.

An array of metaphysical topics appeared in these previous Planes books, some of which include: what transpires after death; the procedure and protocol for every soul that arrives in the Afterlife; life on the other side and what to expect when we transition to there; the netherworld: Purgatory, Hell, the Magnetic Field; the Suicide Plane; war and accident victims; the Pattern World; music and art in Heaven; invisible helpers; angels, teachers, guides and hierarchies; Babyland and Children’s Land; the Animal Kingdom; Mary’s Creative Color teachings; how Mary received enlightened knowledge of the Planes of Heaven; clearing the subconscious to advance spiritually; dreams and visions; tests on the other side; our plan of life here and hereafter; communication between Heaven and Earth; visiting departed loved ones on the Other Side ... and more.

Included in the second and third Planes books were three unique maps/charts of heaven, citing more than one hundred locations in the Heaven world. For readers’ convenience, these three previous maps are reproduced in the current volume, namely: the 1st Plateau/Subplane of Heaven (Map/Chart II); the 1st and 2nd Planes of Heaven (Map/Chart III), and the 3rd and 4th Planes of Heaven (Map/Chart IV), along with a new map, that of heavenly locations on the 5th and 6th Planes (Map/Chart I). These maps were prepared for us students by Mary Weddell and her senior teacher, Miriam B. Willis. We share them here as guideposts, charts of consciousness beyond materiality for use in making a connection between the visible and invisible worlds. Thinking of these maps as illustrating states of consciousness, vibratory rates, and dimensions of being where our spiritual bodies dwell in the hereafter can help us form a more accurate picture of the planes.

We are living in two worlds simultaneously, the visible and the invisible. Together, these two separate yet irreparably linked domains comprise the essence of living in immortality now. The Planes of Heaven are our destination when we graduate from this physical life to the Afterlife; they are also realms of spiritual enlightenment we seekers are privileged to visit nightly in our sleep. That is what our group did in Mary Weddell’s classes during the years Mary was our teacher, and what those of us still living continue doing today, years after Mary’s passing.

Contact between Earth and Heaven is as old as creation. This was accepted reality for the ancients, a part of all major religions. The science of nighttime soul travel is mentioned in the Bible and by the world’s great religions as far back as more than ten thousand years that we know of. Greeks, Egyptians, ancient Hebrews, Tibetans, Persians, Buddhists, Hindus, Native Americans, early Christians and others spoke of the communication between the visible and invisible worlds, recognizing that when human consciousness is focused on the inner planes in sleep, the liberated soul is free to commune with its own nature, partaking of the energies of that very real world beyond. Spiritual training in the heavenly realms is the way to God for all mankind.

Leaving the physical body in sleep, the spiritual or soul body goes out, ascending to a location beyond the earth sphere for spiritual development. In sleep, all of us go somewhere, whether to the Planes of Heaven or to the Sleep World, the latter, mentioned in the Bible, being a rest area for souls who are not in spiritual work on the planes. (Find the Sleep World located on the left side of the map of the Subplane/1st Plateau, to the left of Restland, Map II). In the Sleep World, the soul may experience dreams that, filtered to the intelligence of the dreamer, can awaken his deepest subconscious, causing him to desire spiritual advancement and to visit the Planes of Heaven. In the absence of an earth teacher, he will be taken out by a heavenly guide.

When we contact that other world at night, our spiritual bodies are connected to our physical bodies by the spiritual cord, also known as the silver cord. This radiant cord, which is attenuated when traveling out of the body, is referred to in Scriptures (Ecclesiastes 12:6-7): Or ever the silver cord be loosed ... then ... the spirit shall return unto God who gave it, and was known to exist from time immemorial. The silver cord remains attached throughout nighttime experiences; it is not severed until the transition of death, or as we call it, our graduation from this earthly school. The soul travels on this silver cord along Nature’s Creative Energy (see map) to the planes for training.

The planes of the etheric world of heaven are populated by temples and halls of learning where, guided by higher teachers, we examine and evaluate our lives and receive energy for growth and change. One of Mary Weddell’s spiritual gifts was the ability to take her students to the other side at night. Having mastered laws governing the ascent and descent of the soul between Heaven and Earth, with the help of invisible hosts, Mary summoned our spiritual bodies as we slept, accompanying us to the higher realms for spiritual training.

Starting at midnight, our class would spend between two to five hours on the other side. The first part of our nightly sojourns took place with the entire class together, often in the presence of other groups as well, in a large auditorium or assembly setting. Following this, we would separate individually for personal instruction, to be shown our faults and mistakes in black mirrors revealing detriments and our positive traits in clear mirrors. These mirrors reflect the entire self, our wishful thinking and the reality of ourselves as we really are. A clearing of negative patterns and emotions would ensue, followed by healing and initiations. We were always imparted with a strengthened self image and heightened spiritual energy that carried over into our daily lives. Tests we experienced over there would later be paralleled in our lives in the physical world. An added blessing in those nightly adventures is reuniting with loved ones who have preceded us to the Afterlife, proving that those who've left us are as near as our hands and feet.

During nights on the other side, one is taught to live in the spiritual body for short periods of time. When this life is over and we step into the next world to inhabit that other dimension of reality, our consciousness will go with us to the extent that we have developed it in our earth lifetimes. Thus do we store our treasure in Heaven and prepare our future home for the transition of death – which is not an extinction, but a welcoming into the fullness of eternity.

The underlying theme of all Mary Weddell's work is self knowledge leading to self mastery. Through two peerless original courses, Creative Color Analysis and the Planes of Heaven, Mary enabled us, her students, to see more deeply into ourselves and to understand the awe inspiring structure and purpose of creation. In the Friday classes in Pasadena, we were supported by six heavenly teachers who joined us from the higher planes, whom we welcomed by singing, to organ accompaniment, the hymn In the Garden. At the end of the two hour class (which always seemed so much shorter!) we ushered the teachers out by singing How Great Thou Art. You could always tell when the heavenly guides entered and when they left, for the whole atmosphere in the room was immediately altered, initially enhanced as if an electric force had been gently eased in, then, at the end, subdued as if the electrical current had gradually been switched off.

There were more than sixty of us when all the seats were filled. The class was all levels. Some had been with Mary for any number of years, others were newcomers who sometimes needed answers to the most basic questions. Those with greater spiritual knowledge always welcomed helping the newbies.

From a very early age Mary Weddell proved to be a natural clairvoyant and outstanding medium, gifts she always downplayed with the sure purpose that her students would learn to stand on our own two feet and not rely on her talents. With Mary’s every breath, her goals for us were to develop spiritual sight and hearing in ourselves, which numerous class members certainly did. In fact, Miriam Willis, Mary’s senior teacher, once told us that nearly 5,000 of Mary’s students in the United States, England and France had developed spiritual sight and hearing. Mary wanted us to be teachers, not necessarily teaching in the formal sense of the word; rather, we were to teach by example, living the life. Most of all, Mary definitely did not want us to take her word for it, to be parrots who believed because she said it was so. Repeatedly, she told us to prove everything for ourselves. And prove it we did.

In recent years, any number of well publicized books on heaven and the afterlife have appeared. Most of these are based either on near death experiences (NDE); mediums’ channeling spirits from the other side; messages from the spirit world via automatic writing; past life regressions typically conveyed by subjects under hypnosis; or brief, cryptic Biblical passages. While a number of elements mentioned in other titles are corroborated in the books in the Planes of Heaven series, our group with Mary ventured into unique areas unexplored in other works on heaven and the afterlife. Over the period of our years with Mary in which the class visited more than one hundred temples and other parts of heaven in our night work, we brought back recollections that made a tremendous difference in our lives. We hope the class’ experiences will inspire you, the reader, to have the faith to know that you can bring back your own wisdom and knowledge from the other side of life.

This is the Afterlife in the here and now.

INTRODUCTION

As students of Mary Weddell, we were blessed to have a loving, devoted, highly evolved and inspiring teacher endowed with the ability to take us at night to the many vast and awesome areas of Heaven. Readers without an Earth teacher may wonder how they too can visit the heavenly realms at night. The answer is that any seeker who so desires can do so, if not with an earth teacher, then with a heavenly guide. All who so wish will have the opportunity to follow this path and reap rewards in the here and now and in the Afterlife.

Man attracts to himself the type of knowledge he desires. In that person without an earth teacher, when in sleep there springs the urge to grow in soul development, the spiritual body will attract a heavenly teacher who will take that soul to the higher realms. If you pray to go to the heaven world at night, your prayers will be answered. Have the faith to know that you can accomplish a great deal at night on the planes. If you are reading this without having had the background of Mary’s classes and would like to go to the temples for spiritual training without an earth teacher, the patterns and procedures our class followed could help orient you regarding where you might visit with your heavenly guide.

In Mary’s classes, we students visited a basic temple each night of the week, followed by an additional temple. These seven basic temples were described in earlier volumes of the Planes series. They are all 4th Plane temples, and they are: Monday night, the Temple of Wisdom; Tuesday night, Family Night, including visiting our loved ones in the heaven world; Wednesday, Temple of Bells; Thursday the Temple of Realization; Friday, the Temple of Harmony; Saturday, the Temple of Worship; Sunday, the Temple of Song. After the Sunday temple, we again visited with our departed loved ones in their heavenly homes on the other side.

In this current book, The Afterlife in the Here and Now, fourth volume of the Planes series, we present the group of temples of the 5th and 6th Planes that the class studied. (Future books in the series will focus on the 7th through the 10th Planes).

Mary once recommended that new students take one temple a day for thirty days. Think about what these temples could mean to you. Ask yourself what are your personal issues and what do you wish to accomplish in your spiritual growth. Using color (discussed later in this book), meditation and prayer, write out your thoughts, your purpose, your problem areas, hopes and goals. If your lifestyle and schedule permit, prayer, meditation, and the use of color (see chapter on Mary’s Creative Color Analysis) are recommended before bedtime and again in the morning.

You may recognize from the dreams, visions and other experiences Mary’s class members brought through recorded in this book, how important one small step at a time and one tiny fragment of recollection are. Upon waking, write out your impressions. At first, recall may be imperceptible, but gradually the practice and the teaching in these sojourns you will be taking will promote experiences that you will understand and treasure. Faithfulness in prayer and meditation in daily practice stabilize and advance the soul's growth.
