About this ebook
Dr. Rod Bailey was sent on a once-in-a-lifetime mission trip to Tegucigalpa, Honduras, as part of One Child Matters Program. With some reservations, he enters into a land where driving recklessly on crowded streets is normal, roosters crow from the rusty rooftops and the strong coffee gets no creamer. But, the greater lessons lie in his interaction he has with the proud people, grateful children and the mission he came to serve.
Join Dr. Bailey in his five day journey of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, July 2013.

Around January 2013, Rod shared with the other department managers and myself that he was going to be directly involved in a mission trip for One Child Matters to Tegucigalpa, Honduras. I remember speaking with him in confidence (and I’m sure he’ll have no qualms in me sharing now) on his thoughts in his involvement on the mission trip. Rod reflected with some reservation yet optimistically embraced the new and exciting challenge that lay ahead of him. He had a bevvy of health shots and vaccines, lists of do’s and don’ts he had to commit to and his regular duties as Executive Director for Bethesda Gardens Assisted Living (Phoenix).
The One Child Matters mission trip was something much more impactful than either of us could have imagined, especially Rod. I believe that he came back a changed man. Not that he was any worse off without the exposure, but the experience certainly enhanced and elevated his view of the non-profit company we both worked in Bethesda Senior Living AND his outlook on life.
So, the Bethesda Gardens (Phoenix) team pitched together to raise funds, donations and craft great gifts for Rod’s trip abroad. One of our volunteers worked hours outside of the community just to get some of the supplies in order for the residents to craft till they dropped. I recall my office was packed full for days on end with a parade of residents coming in and out to complete the numerous cards, bookmarks, candy carriers and what have you. It
