My Ratchet Secret - Midnite Love

Introduction

I have a question for you ladies. What would you do to marry the man of your dreams? Would you be willing to risk everything for love? I did, the day I met my fiancé I knew he was my soul mate. And I was willing to do whatever it took to get him no matter what the cost. My name is Pebbles and this is my story.

Hard Letting Go

Damn I miss my baby sis Adrian agonized as he laid fresh roses and carnations on his sister Tasha’s grave. I swear I would give up a limb to have her back again, he cried.

Come on bae; let’s head back to the car.

I placed a comforting hand on his shoulder as I tried to coax him away from the grave site.

The shit just makes me mad as hell! he sobbed. I live for the day they catch the son of a bitch who did this to her.

Adrian’s grief turned to anger each time he thought about his sister being robbed and stabbed to death in her own driveway. Even though there was nothing he could do he still blamed himself for not being there for her.

From the time his baby sister was born his grandfather had instilled in him the importance of taking care of family. He told him no matter what, always protect your sister and your momma. Those were paw paw’s words that he tried his damndest to live by.

His grandfather was a proud man with old southern values. He believed in taking care of home first.  He was old school in the mentality that women were the weaker sex and needed someone to watch out for them. For that very reason he wouldn’t hesitate to bust a cap at any nigga that thought about screwing over any of his sister’s. And he carried these same teaching down to his own sons and grandsons.

Adrian enlisted in the Army when he was fresh out of high school. His visit home on his 28th birthday would be the last time he would see his sister alive.

I should have listened to paw paw, I should have protected her.

Bae how long are you going to keep blaming yourself? What could you have possibly done differently if you were there?

I could have helped her out more financially so she wouldn’t have to depend on them sorry muthafuckas she use to deal with. Maybe she could have moved out the ghetto to a safer neighborhood.... every time you look up somebody was getting killed over there.

It was true; she lived in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods on the west side. Stabbings and shooting were norm and pretty much went unsolved due to the city’s high crime rate.

I wanted to tell my fiancé that a person could be a target anywhere but I knew it would fall on deaf ears. It was useless, he was hell bent on blaming himself.  My only mission was to get him home and to try and cheer him up.

My plan was to grab something quick to eat on the way home and spend the rest of the day deciding on who I wanted to be my bride’s maids in my
