    I spent my morning at the beach. The kids were playing in the waves, and I sat under my umbrella. I occasionally checked my smart phone to return emails. After lunch, I returned home and worked for an hour or two in between folding laundry and loading the dishwasher. This is a real day for me, and I have worked at home for almost ten years now.

    Ten years ago, I was a general manager of a fine-dining restaurant. I ordered wine, consulted on the menu, managed the staff, and worked – a lot. When I was pregnant with my second daughter, the restaurant went up for sale. It was extremely stressful, and the day after I had my daughter, I left the hospital and introduced my staff to the new owners. I also found myself out of a job.  I was the bread winner of the family. It was devastating.

    My husband, who had been staying home with our daughter while I worked a job I really loved, went back into the work force.  Within a few months, he started his own business. It was a hard adjustment for me. I loved the restaurant business, but with a newborn baby and a two-year old, we decided I would stay home. It was very hard on me emotionally. As much as I loved my children, I felt like I wasn’t contributing to our household, because we had initially taken a huge pay cut. I wasn’t used to staying home. At the time, I didn’t understand the value of a stay-at-home mother. Now I do, but I’ve learned I can be at home and still work,
