In her anger, Miss Alice Carter places a wager against the devastatingly attractive Mr Lucas Jones. If she wins their card game, she will take back her home and possessions that she believes Lucas to have cunningly and wickedly stolen away from her father.

But if she loses the wager, she must give Mr Jones what he has always desired and wanted.....she will have to give herself to him, forsaking all her virtue, but it is a price she is prepared to stake for a chance to wipe away the arrogant grin from Lucas’s face.

Alice just hopes that luck will be on her side, as she takes a deep breath, turns her cards, and allows fate to decide what her future holds!

As long as I can remember I have always loved everything and anything to do with the romance genre. Enjoying writing, reading and watching a wide range of love stories. I am a true romantic at heart! So after studying for a philosophy degree and then going on to work in a corporate job in advertising, I decided to reconnect with my passion again! I now write mainly romance short stories, with the aim to share all of my ideas with others who also have an interest in romantic fiction. I write in a range of romance subgenres including erotic romance, contemporary, sweet, paranormal/fantasy fiction and historical. I hope to continue writing as long as my ideas keep flowing out from my mind. In early 2014 I experienced my own personal love story, when I married my one true love. I now live together with my husband in London.

    Chapter 1

Alice took a deep breath as she walked over to where Mr Lucas Jones sat shuffling a pack of cards in his hands. He had a very smug satisfied look on his face.

She tried not be irritated by his openly arrogant manner, knowing that she needed to concentrate on holding  down her nerves, in order to be taken seriously by him.

‘Mr Jones,’ she kept her voice soft and sweet as she addressed him.

‘Miss Carter. Of what do I owe the honour of your delightful presence before me?’ He stood as she reached his side, acting like a charming gentlemen as he bowed down to kiss her gloved hand with a wide smile.

‘You look very well, Mr Jones. I take it that you have had a good night at these tables?’ Alice fanned herself slowly, she suddenly felt as if there was a rise in the temperature surrounding her as his striking blue eyes looked over her person so openly and casually.

Alice was annoyed with herself for being effected for even one moment by Lucas’s devilishly handsome looks and impeccable manners, especially when she knew what he was really like, that the man behind the charismatic mask was ruthless and cold hearted.

‘Yes, Miss Carter, you have observed my mood correctly, it has indeed been a good day at the card tables. But I think that I better not push my luck any further and retreat from this area to allow others to take their chances, just as I have done. Perhaps, Miss Carter, you would be kind enough to gift me with a dance to provide me
