About this ebook

Arri had been abused and picked on all his life. Born a runt, and then maturing into an omega, he was cast out of his pack. Figuring he’d not find another pack willing to take him in, he struggled to make a life for himself in the human world.
If he didn’t have bad luck, he had no luck at all. Jobs were hard to come by, and he wasn’t able to keep them for long, his omega empathy causing humiliating meltdowns.
He’d been robbed, mugged, and nearly raped too many times to count. Arri’s wolf was fundamentally broken, with no way to emerge, or protect him, finally withdrawing deep within him and remaining silent.
Then, a day came when things changed. Answering yet another employment ad, he was stunned to find the source of the advertisement was a beta wolf, then was shocked further when he was presented before the alpha of the Woodlynn pack. He’d heard rumors about this pack, the alpha considered one of the strongest on the continent.
He believed the rumors after meeting the large male.
Arri’s silent wolf had awakened, whispering to him, calling the alpha, mate, which was ridiculous. Alphas didn’t mate with lowly omegas. Especially male omegas, even though Arri was perfectly capable of giving an alpha pups, or so he’d been told by the old ex-beta he’d befriended. But then again, male omegas were rare, and thought little of, viewed as weak, considered unnatural. So, he would ignore his wolf, do his job, and keep his head down, not causing Alpha Dryden any cause to fire him.
*~*~*~*
Dryden knew there was something different about the assistant his beta, Vann, had brought to him. He was human, yet he smelled of wolf. But not a scent Dryden had ever experienced before. Vann hadn’t seemed to notice, though Dryden suspected his beta was still angry at Dryden insisting on a human assistant.
How could he tell his beta he’d felt an uneasiness in his pack, a danger that he couldn’t put his finger on, and didn’t want to trust any pack-mates to handle his affairs?
As time passed, his instincts that something was wrong within his pack grew, along with the certainty that Arri was not what he seemed.
It was when Dryden was visiting another pack, tremulous negotiations for an alliance in the works, and Arri was attacked, that the truth came out. Dryden’s assistant was an omega wolf. And not just any omega, but a Fae Omega, which would be the reason Dryden hadn’t known.
Omega wolves were rare, and most packs banished them for their weaknesses. But a Fae Omega was unheard of, most believing them myths. The Fae had died out a long time ago, and for an omega wolf to be born with Fae blood was incredible.
But that wasn’t Dryden’s biggest problem. The moment Arri had shifted, Dryden’s wolf went into the blood-mate fever, the need to claim the omega the only thing he was capable of thinking about.
But to claim Arri, Dryden would have to fight the alpha of Arri’s home pack, and he wasn’t sure he could win. And, then there was the unknown threat within his own pack that he still needed to figure out.

More telling than showing & lots of typos. Definitely needs editing, but not the worst I've read by a long shot.

This was .. hm. Uneven. I liked it at first.
Most of the book had a sedate pace but then it just exploded into james bond for shifters and when we got to the steamy scene it was too graphic and kind of grotesque for my taste.

The two parts, the style, didn't fit together. It just left me confused as in wtf did I just read. Like they couldn't decide which type of book they meant to write.

Also this pair was very distant and didn't connect or didn't really interact and then they're just suddenly a couple.

So bad. SO bad. 99% of Teen Wolf fanfic is better than this tripe. The plot could be interesting but it's drowning in a sea of unnecessary words and extraneous characters and continuity efforts and sidetracks. The sex scenes are dreadful , too. How did this get published? Author now firmly in my "ugh, no" category.

Not-bad. I think what I really like about the book was the character Arri. I enjoyed being inside his head and watching him go from meek skinny boy to a man who found his strength.

This book was worth the read because I enjoyed the fact that it kept my attention. The ending wasn't a hundred percent great because it could have used another chapter or two but worth the read. I recommend this book for any who like the idea of a happily ever after. Im skeptical about paranormal reads because a lot of times the characters may not mesh together or the erotic scenes are usually rushed and then its all about sex. However, this story, I liked the idea that I was learning about a world that I thought I knew.

Prologue

Arri stood off to the side of Alpha Sbrel’s desk, head down, hands clasped in front of him, trembling. He tried to ignore the deep ache from the bruises covering most of his body… struggled to disregard the itching of healing scrapes. If he’d been old enough to shift, he wouldn’t be dealing with the injuries the old fashioned way, but he wasn’t. Not for another few weeks anyway.

In front of the alpha’s desk, stood two of the worst tyrants in the pack and the ones that had made Arri’s entire life a living hell. Baston, and Malury. Baston was Alpha Sbrel’s son, and he made sure Arri didn’t forget that…painfully and often. What Baston had against him, Arri didn’t know. It had always been that way, Baston, and his cronies, picking on Arri since he could remember. Maybe it was because Arri was a runt, too small to fight back. Or maybe it was because Arri no longer had parents, leaving him to fend for himself with the other pack members, with no one to protect him from the onslaught of abuse Baston liked to dole out.

Arri’s parents never held any rank in the pack. They were just regular wolves that tended to avoid pack functions, and kept mostly to themselves. Arri’s mother had been exceptionally beautiful, so maybe his father was the jealous type. To him, they were just his parents; his father, who ignored him most of the time, and his mother who always seemed so displeased with him. Arri remembered being continuously uncomfortable with the way his mother had the uncanny ability to always know when Arri was lying. Most shifters could smell it, the unpleasant odor of deceit. But Arri’s mother would even know why Arri was lying, which generally got him into more trouble. For that matter, when Arri thought about it, his mother knew exactly how he felt at any given moment. It had been creepy, and he’d avoided his mother as much as his father had avoided him.

Complaining about the bullying, back when he was younger and lived with his parents, hadn’t done any good, his father doing nothing but telling him to toughen up, and his mother just shaking her head in disappointment, and what looked like sadness. He didn’t understand his parents. Didn’t they love him? Didn’t they care that Baston and his friends were hitting him, calling him names, cornering him, and knowing he couldn’t fight back?

Then, about the time he turned twelve, they had abandoned him, leaving him to be a ward of the pack, and fleeing the pack territory. Arri didn’t know why they left. All he knew was his life got infinitely worse after their departure. Without a proper home, and being bounced from pack house, to pack house as an orphan, there was no one to protect him from Baston’s and his follower’s abuse, not that his parents had either. After several years, the pack had started complaining about caring for him, and he’d ended up living in the alpha house, much to Baston’s glee. It gave the bigger wolf full access to torment and beat on Arri. Three long years being the alpha heir’s own personal punching bag.

This time, Baston had been caught by the alpha, where usually he was more circumspect. Arri had never said a word about the abuse, too afraid of Baston’s reprisals if he found out Arri had snitched to Baston’s alpha father. Arri wanted to cringe at Alpha Sbrel’s powerful voice as he chewed out his son and Malury. Baston was going to be even worse now, taking out his punishment on Arri’s body. Unfortunately, there was nowhere for Arri to hide, nowhere to escape Baston’s brutal attention.

For a short time, Arri had found solace in the little shifter-owned gift shop, Burnett’s Bargains, which stood on the side of the road that led to the pack lands, just past the border. Tourists loved to come and enjoy the wilderness, completely oblivious to the fact there was a full wolf shifter pack, over one hundred strong, living in the huge expanse of forestry.

Those shifters that worked, did so in the small town about twenty miles south of the pack lands. Arri didn’t have a car, or even a license, and couldn’t shift, so he’d started working for old Burnett, walking the seven miles to get to the small building that sold miscellaneous trinkets, blankets made by some of the she-wolves, and small clippings of the myriad of trees and plants that comprised the forest.

Burnett, an ex-beta, was ancient, almost reaching his ninth century of living. In the beginning, when Arri would work after school, and on weekends, it had been like a paradise of peace for him. Baston and his lackeys never came into the little shop, too afraid of Burnett’s beta power, even with the shifter weak from age. After Arri had finished with school, he’d started spending most of his time in the little shop.

But Burnett didn’t work with Arri in the shop anymore, preferring to spend his remaining years in his wolf form, wandering the forest. Arri was convinced there would come a day when he didn’t see the old shifter, and would find Burnett’s body among the trees, his life essence gone.

Somehow, Baston had figured out Burnett didn’t come into the shop much anymore. Maybe he didn’t smell the old beta on Arri. And knowing Arri was there alone, Baston, and his friends, had been showing up, causing trouble and torturing Arri. Surprising himself with his courage, Arri had tried his best to keep Baston and the others from breaking things, and trashing the little shop. But that defiance had only gotten him even more injured. Arri never thought of himself as strong, preferring to avoid confrontations, but he couldn’t stand aside as Baston ruined Burnett’s shop, without, at least, trying to stop it.

Devoid of Burnett’s support, Arri didn’t open the shop very often now. It wasn’t like it was making a lot of money anyway. The tourist season was short this far north, the snows keeping people away, and Burnett didn’t care about much these days. Certainly not whether the tiny store was open or not. Lately, Arri had been subjected to doing errands for the alpha anyway. For the last year, Alpha Sbrel had him doing paperwork, filing, data entry, and other things the alpha didn’t care to do. Why he wasn’t having his son do it, Arri didn’t know, nor would he question the alpha. But it left little time for him to spend his days in Burnett’s shop, and more time for Baston to find him for a beat down.

Arri!

The alpha’s bellow jerked Arri out of his musings and he lifted his head, careful not to look Alpha Sbrel in the eyes. Not that the alpha would take it as a challenge. It was blatantly obvious Arri was no threat to the leader of their pack. Short and thin, he’d wished, more than once, he wasn’t so small and timid.

Baston and Malury have been given perimeter duty for the next two days. I suggest you go see the healer, and avoid provoking my son in the future.

Arri’s jaw dropped, stunned at the alpha’s words. He’d never provoked Baston! White hot anger surged through him, his gums and fingertips tingling, his skin feeling tight and itchy, even though he couldn’t shift yet. But he couldn’t do anything about the rage he felt at the alpha’s injustice. He chewed on his lip, gave the alpha a respectful nod, and waited to be dismissed. Once he was free of the stifling office, instead of seeing the healer, he ran to his room, gritting his teeth, and ignoring his body’s protest at the fast pace. He rushed in, locking the door behind him, and leaning against it to catch his breath. It wouldn’t stop Baston from getting in, but it made him feel a little better.

He should have known Baston would come up with some excuse, making it Arri’s fault Baston had laid fists on him, and he cursed himself for letting his mind drift and not listening to what Baston had told his father. Not that it mattered. Arri wouldn’t have been able to defend himself anyway. He wouldn’t have dared try, or Baston’s attention would be even more painful. As it was, Baston being punished was going to end up being Arri’s problem in a couple of days.

Wolf shifters might be a tactile bunch, but Arri could do without Baston’s kind of touch. Slowly, hissing at the pain, he removed his shirt, shoes and socks, and finally his jeans, intent on taking a hot shower to help with the aches. It was a real nuisance that human drugs didn’t work on shifters, or Arri would be popping more than a few aspirin.

He was eternally thankful he had a bathroom off his room, and didn’t have to walk the long hall to the main one. The alpha house was big, though Alpha Sbrel didn’t go for the opulence that many alphas did, or so Arri heard. The house was tastefully furnished and fairly sparse, catering to a shifter’s need for room. It held six bedrooms, not including Alpha Sbrel’s suite, four bathrooms, a huge living room, a large dining area with a long dining table, and a double, detached garage. The kitchen wasn’t very big, crowded with an industrial sized refrigerator, six burner stove, and an island big enough to seat at least four of the largest shifters in the pack. A comfortable house, even if Arri knew Alpha Sbrel wasn’t happy with him here.

He turned on the water, waiting for it to heat and stared at himself in the mirror. The male that stared back was hardly one Arri recognized. Shadowy circles hung under his pale gray eyes, highlighted by his sharp cheekbones. His wavy, black hair hung limply to just above his long neck, his bangs split to either side of his eyes. His lips were plump, his chin pointed, his face looking almost…delicate. Girly. He had muscles, he was a shifter after all, but they were small, though defined and well-toned. He was short for a shifter, his frame thin, his waist flat, and his arms and legs long. He had little body hair, like most shifters, and what he did have was as black as what was on his head, making his pale skin shine even lighter.

Steam wafted by him, and he turned away from his reflection to enter the enclosure. He pulled the shower curtain shut and stood, letting the hot water pound down on his body. He’d seen the bruises in the mirror too, some vividly blue, black, and purple, especially around his ribs; the older ones looking a sickly yellow and green. The scrapes here and there were already almost healed, even without being able to shift. His higher shifter metabolism working to patch up his marred skin. So far, Baston and his ilk hadn’t left any scars on him, but he had no clue if that would last.

The water wouldn’t stay hot long, so Arri grabbed the soap and washed his body as quickly as the bruises allowed. He shampooed his hair, rinsed, and then turned the water off before stepping from the tub. He dried off, then wrapped the towel around his slim hips and made his way back into his bedroom. He would have two uninterrupted days, without the fear of Baston finding him. He’d take advantage while he could.

Once the alpha’s son returned, there was no doubt Arri would be in a world of hurt. Perimeter duty was the least favorite assignment for the dominant males, the long hours boring, and the task tedious. Baston would be furious when he came back, and Arri shuddered at what was sure to happen. Fear tried to choke him, but he swallowed it down and grabbed some clean clothes. He had kitchen duty tonight in the alpha house. Old Burnett’s shop would just have to wait until another day…again.

Chapter 1

For what seemed like the 100th time, Arri found himself standing in the alpha’s oppressive office. Except this time, he was standing in front of the desk, instead of to the side, or at the tiny table in the corner, and was the only occupant besides Alpha Sbrel. When Arri chanced a quick glance at the alpha from under his lashes, the big male was scowling at him, making nervous sweat trickle down Arri’s back and sides. Four days ago, Arri had turned twenty, and last night, experienced his first shift.

It had happened in his room, in the middle of the moonlit night, his wolf coming out to protect him from the nightmare he’d been having. Shifting had also healed the latest injuries Baston and his friends had inflicted on him. Arri had gone to bed, pain burning everywhere, with a split, swollen lip, black eye, wrenched shoulders, a broken finger, bruised, or possibly cracked ribs, and a twisted knee. He’d been in agony, but he’d hidden it, unwilling to go to the healer, and have the she-wolf tell Alpha
