About this ebook
Part mermaid and part human, Olivia’s job is to work with both the mermaid royalty underwater and the army on land to keep the peace in Flowerantha. She is used to having everything under control and would like to keep it that way.
In this short story, Olivia’s latest task is to help two lost visitors from another land find their way back home. But a bigger matter takes priority when the King is kidnapped by a power-hungry monsternite, or a Tyrannosaurus Rex with wings.
Olivia wants to believe she can accomplish both tasks, but when more and more problems arise along the way—like a skirmish in the mermaid council and a couple of missing boys—she wonders if that might not be true. She must put her pride aside and ask for help, or someone is bound to lose their freedom.

I never considered writing short fiction before, but I’m glad I decided to stick around and explore the world of Flowerantha further. Thank you to Mat and Nancy of the Author Strong podcast for indirectly giving me the idea and for continued inspiration. And to the Author Strong Facebook community for support and feedback along the way. As usual, thanks so much to my editors extraordinaire, Malinda and Anita (who I call Marm), for always making my writing better.
Olivia’s current mission, if she chose to accept it, which she always did, was to escort four children and a mermaid. But these weren’t all normal Floweranthan children. Two of the children were from the Ama Ranth, the other land, which is why the mission appealed to her. She had to help two overenthusiastic boys and their mermaid friend return the two girls to the Ama Ranth. It should be fairly straightforward as long as the monsternites, giant winged beasts, stayed out of their way. Having the mermaid along complicated things because she could be a meal for the monsternites.
Olivia kicked her webbed feet and pushed the door open to her home—a small alcove just outside of the merpalace. Olivia worked as the go-between for the land walkers and sea dwellers, but she also attended to any random task that the King and Queen needed fulfilled, which meant that they always liked her to be close by.
King Mermano and Queen Mermaida had given her a room in the palace—a glorious room with every comfort imaginable—but Olivia did not spend much time in that room. Only when she needed to spend days in the palace would she use her opulent, royal bedroom. Her alcove was a better location, and she could leave at a moment’s notice at any sign of trouble. Her room in the underwater palace required her to go down too many corridors and talk to too many merpeople. It wasn’t
