About this ebook
As our understanding grows and our technology advances, it comes back to new and inventive ways to kill each other. The one thing that never changes are the soldiers who put their lives on the line in order to protect the freedoms of others. These are the men and women working in the combat zones day after day with little to no contact with their families back home.
What happens when you are born to war? This is all you ever know. What happens when you run out of people to fight?

C-130 ROLLING DOWN the strip
2nd platoon gonna take a little trip
Stand- up, buckle- up, shuffle to the door
Jump right out and shout, we love the corps
He had the cadence stuck in his head again. It came to him every time before a drop. It was an older one, from another time, another place. They came a long way from the C-130s. The battle-pods brought airborne to a whole new level.
The wars never changed, but the machines of war evolved. Captain Lars Tildare, leader of a search and destroy fire team, still lived in the fleet. His team continued to fight the war that should have ended years ago.
Did the pilot push the button, or the co-pilot? It didn’t really matter. The dropships didn’t need to enter the atmosphere. His pod released into free-fall directly from orbit.
His fire team consisted of two light and two medium battle-pods. He piloted one of the mids. Aside from a Vulcan cannon and close-support scattergun, his battle-pod was equipped with the command package tactical read out. He had the best view of the battle field to guide the rest as needed.
Jerod was in the other mid as missile support. Jerod's pod was loaded down with short and medium-range missiles. The advanced targeting system kept him out of enemy fire, unlike the others.
The lights, Mak and Tiera, were the close support for Lars’ mid. The light pods were fast and agile but lacked heavy armor. Close support vibro blades and scatterguns were standard issue.
Their mission, take out an observation post, a hit and run. He didn't expect it to take them long. Their intel showed nothing heavier than a light defending the post.
The pods burst their outer shell. The interior layer formed each of their battle-pods. His stomach lurched with the change in g-forces, or it might be nerves. The mission was routine, but they didn't have the option to let up.
He called up the HUD for his armor, checked to ensure it was tied in with the others. Steady on approach.
The others came online, with a crackle of energy.
Tiera online.
She clicked on her stabilizing thrusters, preparing for the final approach.
Mak online.
Jerod?
It was not like him to take so long to check in.
Jerod online, LT.
