L.I.F.E. (Living is for Eternity) - Tina Clarice Williams

While it may sound trite, I really must acknowledge Jesus Christ first. He is the lens through which I look at God and can understand God to the extent that I do. He is the reason I can live with peace of mind and confidence in the midst of a world that changes its mind and morals like the wind. He is truly my best friend forever (BFF)!

I am truly loved and supported. Through thick and thin, ups and downs, and all in between, my family has been right by my side. Mommy-cakes, Daddy-o, June Buggie, and Ace aka Angie Pops, you all mean the world to me. Every endeavor I have undertaken in life, you have been there, even for the crazy ideas I had as a kid, for some of which you now give me the side eye as we reminisce!

KT, you have been such an unexpected gift that just keeps giving. We have been through so much together, and seen each other in so many different seasons in life, and we still forge ahead as more than friends, but rather as sisters. Thank you for your ongoing creative inspiration and input and for helping keep my creative juices flowing even as I spend so much time in the legal, technical, and business arenas!

To Sharnae, and the parents, Tiffany, Aaron, Erian, and Shaun, of the lovely young ladies, Eliyah and Christa, on the cover of this book, thank you so much for allowing your darling daughters to participate in this project and help bring the vision I had for the cover come to fruition. Eliyah and Christa, thank you for participating! Christa, I also thank you for your video demonstrating your excitement about participating in the photo shoot for the cover; your energy was contagious! I look forward to great things from you girls as your beauty inside and out continues to mature and manifest.

To Tiffany, thanks for the photo editing support!

Nikki Niks, Johnny Cash, JT, I am so grateful to have you in my life; you keep it real and help me maintain an honest assessment of myself!

To each of my friends, colleagues, fellow members of the Body of Christ, and even to the lovely haters I have endured in this life, I thank you and I appreciate you. You are integral parts of the inspiration for this book of poems about L.I.F.E.

    Love you all!

    Foreword

The story of why I started writing poetry is rather amusing to me, and ironic. As I was writing poems to capture my authentic feelings, I was doing so to make it look like I was taking copious notes in class! My rationale was that writing poetry to stay awake was better than the alternative: dozing off! And so, here we are!

This book contains a compilation of poems I have written over the course of approximately16 years. I went through my journals, emails, scratchpads, napkins, and notebooks to find these poems, and then selected those with which I would actually proceed. This process mirrors the process of my life so far; not everything is meant to make it to the final product, but all pieces are a part of the process.

Most of these poems were written to be spoken – spoken word – so as you read, perhaps read aloud, allowing yourself to hear the passion and the conviction in your own voice. I hope you are inspired!

    Chapter 1: Identity

    Observer

I see her smile and I feel her cry

I wonder about her and whether she's really alive

I watch her and hear her respond, but...her heart is not moving with her lips

I wonder if she feels, really feels, or if she's standing right beside me

Another observer of her own life

    Through these eyes

Through the eyes of a child,

You will see the city as a playground,

You will see and not merely suspect the truth from a lie,

    And even still you’ll love,

You will see people’s colors as simply those…colors, as crayons,

    You will see God,

You will see everything good you think doesn’t exist,

Through the eyes of a child.

From A Woman, To the Girl She Was

    Different Now

I am different than I thought I was

I recently paused to reflect on me
