About this ebook

There is a direct link between our voice and our personality.

The way we think and feel about ourselves, the way we think and feel about life is directly expressed in the way we speak our words, the sound of our voice. We may intend to send a specific message, but, because our von verbal language speaks louder than our words, our “real” message may be miss-sent or misunderstood. This misunderstanding has direct impact on our personality.

The sound of our voice carries the critical message - words are almost meaningless. By the sound of the voice, the listener determines who we are and what is the “real” message – but is it the message we intended to send?

We mean to sound friendly, but the voice is weak, hesitant, no eye contact, the inflection shows indecision, boredom, fear... The sound of the voice sends the “real” message, even if it’s one we would never consciously send.
Our voice is a strange thing; it’s a very small part of us on the inside, but on the outside it’s a vital part of our communication. We choose our words carefully believing that our message is clear. We conclude we’ve been understood – the words say it all. But it’s the “paralanguage’ that sends the real message – it is the foundation of most communication – not the words.

This book focuses on paralanguage, the sound and control of the voice, which directly affects personality. By this method you can easier understand your motivation and that of others.

    VOICE PEARLS

Our voice is who we are.

It is the carrier of our ideas and feelings.

It is our first means of communication, and

so it is that through our voice art and beauty

    are spoken.

The first little word of a child, or the passionate

singing of a song – all this is heard by the ear,

understood by the mind, and felt by the heart.

Therefore it is obvious that we need to

    take care of our voice

    and treat it with

    utmost attention

    INTRO

The little poem says our voice is the carrier of our feelings and, it is felt by the heart - interpreted by our feelings.

The sound of the voice is music, vibrations of the vocal chords that reverberate through time and space touching every heart and soul. This music can lift you up, or, it can bring despair. Understanding the power and joy of the voice - the music of your speech, is critical to bring the best of all life into your personal Universe.

Music is my field, my love, my passion. From years of musical training I segued into speech and vocal coaching. Every sound is a type of music; some unpleasant, some painful, but all of them meaningful.

At 12 years old, I started voice training in earnest in the bel canto method which involves intense body work and intense focus. My type of voice was a lyric soprano, lots of range and expression to play with.

As time moved on, from the intense focus on listening to the various sounds when people talked, I began to notice strange things about their voice and speech patterns. I heard feelings, inner fears, a kind of hesitancy about who they were and what was expected of them - insecurity.

Later, learning about body language, and, coupled with the vibrations of the voice, I could discern a persons thoughts, whether or not they were trustworthy, shy, dishonest, unsure, secure, truthful - many behaviors and personalities became very clear to me.

The sound of the voice held no secrets. Thoughts and feelings, strengths and weaknesses, were clearly expressed. All that was in the speaker’s mind and heart were revealed.

Your voice is a strange thing; it’s a small part of you on the inside, but on the outside it’s a vital part how you communicate and a vital message that others not only hear, but feel. Other listeners may not have the words or translation code to interpret the intent accurately, they believe the message was
